Topic Dog Boards / Health / bad diarreah and bile

Hi all,

looking for some good advice once again.  My 11 month cocker has been doing great in all ways.  Yesterday morning when i went to give him his breakfast he just looked at the bowl and walked away which is not like him at all he normally has it scoffed by the time you finish putting it down,  but within sort of 10 mins he had finished it kind of picking at the bits of kibble 1 by 1. In the afternoon i went for shopping and came back there was diarreah all over the place and the most horrid smell.  I took him outside and this went on again his little feathers were covered in it!  He saw one of his friends and played normallly with her so wasn,t feeling not well.  I decided to starve him that t-time but got up this morning and here was the same diarreah again in the kitchen.  Since 8 this morning he has been sick twice but not yellow bile white frothy, i would normally go right to the vets with him today but as its sunday, thot i might try here first.  Also should i give him something today (egg, chicken, or pasta) or should i starve him a little longer.  Any advice would be grateful thank you.

hi, i would normally starve my dogs for 24hours and then start with given them some natural yogurt, then little but often with boiled chicken and rice. Check his temperature if high then a visit to vets would be good idea, i sure someone on here will be along with some more advice x :)

I would avoid eggs and pasta for an upset stomach.
If he is ok with eating chicken then i would boil this up and feed with either cooked rice or potato. White fish is also a good one. Has he eaten something which he shouldn't of?
Dogs can get themselves very dehydrated very quickly if they have the runs like this and are also vomiting. I would keep a close eye on him and i agree with Gemini about starving for 24hrs, pure pro-biotic yoghurt is a good idea. Do you have any pro-kolin by any chance, my boys get that to start with to see if it firms up the stools.
But being a pup i would possibly er on the side of caution and if my tonight nothing has changed i would be looking to contact the vets for advice.

Decided to take him to vets wasnt taking any chances, vet says he is dehydrated and she has put him on a fluids drip and also AB incase of viral bacteria.  Dont know if we are getting him home tonight will have to wait on her calling back.  Oh why do dogs cause us so much worry i have two teenagers and dont worry as much about them lol.  Anyway thanks to all who took time to reply.  Thanks again x

Hope he is ok, at least being at the vets he is in the right place.
Why do they have to do this at weekends or at night?? Always the emergency call outs huh??

Let us know how he gets on..

Had the same problem with my cocker as a pup and last &this year, is he getting near a pond? Mine was eating blanket weed! He is a bit off colour now so I have dropped his feed to chicken and (Uncle Ben's) rice, seems to be fine today. He is also getting his legs caked with cow pooh being hosed down but also licking himself dry, could be picking up stuff that way.
Fingers crossed he is ok?
