I'm not a happy bunny at the moment. Due to the wet weather, I had three days worth of laundry built up which equated to four wash loads. Today is dry and very windy so I've done all the washing and pegged it all out.......then one of my lines broke and all the clothes ended up on the wet grass Grrrrr. I've had the Minky retractable line which was rubbish and the current line was from a home bargains kind of shop.
Does anyone know of a very good heavy duty retractable clothes line that is durable? I don't mind about cost, just quality. I don't like the rotary type clothes dryers but don't like to have clothes line permanently across the garden so the retractable type is for me. Can anyone recommend one?
Thanks
A not so happy Hayley

No idea about retractable ones but if you like rotary ones why not get one and put it in the shed when you don't have a load on it. Mine is fairly light and sunk into a metal tube in the ground so lifts out easily.
Me to Ive got a rotary I put away in the winter it takes up no more space when away than a garden umbrella. Come complete with dogs that like to pull towells off the line for fun...cheap, anyone???
just had a good idea after it being mentioned about putting the rotary line in the garage when not in use - in the the winter i am going to put it up in the garage and peg the clothes on it! it stands in a garden brolly stand anyway so can just transport to garage and use the tumble dryer less. Clothes will take longer to dry but its cheap, just got to work out how to make room for it!!!

I got a good one from Lakeland that attaches to a wall and fold down when not in use.

lorripop, that brill idea :) my neighbours put up their gazebo over their rotary line just leaving a small opening for air to get through! Another brill idea! :)

i know you said you dont like the rotary but there is a new one out that attaches to the wall and opens like an umbrella so when you dont need it close it and it keeps on the wall tidy away, therefore you dont have to have the permanent hole in the floor either

... but it costs a small fortune (about £80)

If this is for the Brabantia one? If you are a member or know someone who is a member of Costco they sell these for about half this price.
In the new Argos catalogue they sell a similar wall mounted dryer in there now for £29.99.

I've had a couple of retractable lines but find that after a year or two they stop retracting!!
We now just have to loop it away manually but I agree it's much better than leaving the line up permanently AND certainly better for drying than a rotary.
I once had a conversation with a man in B&Q who recommended that all washing lines should be replaced every two years as they tend to perish. That information isn't much help after your washing has ended up in the mud though is it !! :)

I've got the Brabantia wall mounted rotary type and it's brilliant, even if my OH fixed it to the wall a bit too high for me, he now gets to hang out some of the washing :D. Yes, it is expensive, but very good quality and guaranteed for five years. I bought it with my Sainsbury's Nectar Points and put £30 towards the cost, so didn't really feel the pain. They have been on offer in Argos, can't remember how much, above £50, a little saving, I guess. :)

I got a retractable one from B&Q. It was only about a tenner but It does the job, has two long washing lines and has been used every day for the past 6 months with no trouble yet.
