Topic Dog Boards / Health / Red elbow area

Hi everyone

Hoping someone might have an idea as to what to do about this.

My eight year old border collie has developed a red and very slightly broken area on her elbow about the size of a 10p piece. It's most definitely caused by lying on a hard surface. I have laminate flooring throughout my house and she simply refuses to use a bed at any time! I have beds scattered everywhere but she will scrabble them out of the way to lie down! She has clearly been licking at this area although I've never seen her doing this. There is no inflammation or sign of infection. Just a red, baldy spot!

Does anyone know of a good healing cream which I could use? One which would be safe even if she licked and ingested the cream? I used to use Hypercal cream many years ago but have never needed to use anything like this over recent years.

Thanks x

You could try Phytobalm from Hilton Herbs (http://www.hiltonherbs.com/canine/canine_coatandskin.cfm?cfid=2085575&cftoken=50398447), that is very good.

That looks just the ticket pedlee! Thank you so much.

I was pondering over the Hypercal as I read "if ingested contact the poisons dept"! Yikes! Wasn't keen on that statement! However, the Phytobalm also contains Hypericum too. The statement "safe even if dog ingests" puts me at ease! Will order today....thanks again :)

i used to get patches on my elbows like this when i worked at a desk made by constantly leaning them on the edge of the desk.
i used E45 cream but don't know if thats ok for dogs or not. it did seem to work though.

It's just the not-knowing if it's harmful when/if ingested isn't it?

Hopefully get the Phytobalm early next week. I also ordered Slippery Elm when on the website as I thought it would be useful to have for any upset tummies. I could spend a fortune on that site lol!
