which foods would you recommend for milk production .
My bitch will not eat her usual complete with tripe , with tuna or with anything .She so far will only eat raw minced chicken with bone , and drink lots of puppy formula made up with egg and a bit of honey (suggested by a breeder )and of course she's drinking water . I have tried her with lots of bits and pieces but she is being very fussy .

She had her puppies on Monday , the largest litter I have ever experienced .I am suplimenting the pups but wonder if her diet will prove to be lacking .
Thanks Sallyd

Raw red meat is what all the old breeders used to say produced plenty and the best milk.........

My first litter is only a week old but was larger than I was expecting at 10. I am feeding my girl her usual raw diet, but in vast quantities. I found she won't eat large bits. but she will eat mince. She eats in the whelping box with the puppies with me holding the bowl or even handing her bite sized bits of food. I have to cut the pieces up very small as anything bigger than about an inch square seems to be put down with a pained look, as if she doesn't have th energy to chew. , I give her water etc in the same way. I keep food handy and offer her some frequestly.
I have also added some cooked liver , and cooked chicken just to tempt her a bit. I have been worrying about whether one pup is big enough but the rest of them are growing well. How many pups did you have?

hi if she is being fussy it could be that with a large litter her mouth might be sore cleaning all the pups ,its early days for your girl so dont worry to much ,puppy milk will feed her to and help with her milk ,fluids are more importend the 1st week or 2 ,soon she will be eating you out of everything :) ...have you tried soaking her food with the milk ? .
