I was wondering if anyone could help me? I want to use my dog to breed and I was wondering how to go about it. He is a beautiful black and tan dapple dachsund and would make a great stud dog

Speak to your boys breeder and do some showing so that people will see him and you will get to know more about the sort of lines he should be bred to. As you probably know it is not just a case of putting a dog and bitch together and producing lovley healthy puppies, a good deal of study and responsibility are also needed.

Study your chosen breed. Read all you can. Attend shows and study the catalogue, see what dogs are behind the ones in the ring. Try to get an idea of what the various dogs are throwing, what their short comings are and what your own dog's shortcomings are and what he has to offer! Show your dog to get the views of your peers in the breed and to get him seen. Talk to the breeders and pick all the brains you can about what carries what but hold your own council on what you hear. no one wants to hear someone talking ill of their dog.

That’s the starting place and believe me, it can get fascinating the more you learn!
