Hi everyone, my bitch is doing well and so are pupies. they are a week old now. My only concern is her not drinking much, she will only take a little of the whelpi milk. I am finding it so hard to know if she has milk and how much. The pups are suckling but not for a long time. they have been gaining weight, but im just concerned. what can i give her to encourage her to drink, and how can i tell if she has milk?

hi make her some scrambled egg using the whelpi milk, give her grated cheese etc if her puppies are settled after a suckling on her milk bar, then that is a good sign that they are getting their fill, and if puppies are gaining weight also that is good indication :) x

hi, ive never had a litter but hope to soon but ive read alot about breeding, if the pups are always crying then they are not getting enough but if they are content then all is well.
good luck i hope to breed my girl in the future all being well.

You can always give her boiled water, diluted with evaporated milk.  Mine will clear a whole bowlful when they have had the first taste.  It's ideal for making milk, and I find that it's less likely to upset tums.

I give mine half and half, it's what we used in the days before Lactol and Whelpi.

has the whelpi been warm when youve given it to her? as this can help in some circumstances
