Hello!

I have 3 Labs...  5 year old dog,  3.5 year old bitch and a 4 month dog puppy.  All are big wrestlers, but the oldest dog less so these days.  So it's generally the bitch and the puppy wrestling... it's very loud, but quite clearly very fun for both parties!  The older chap just keeps out of the way.  On the rare occasion that puppy and older dog have a bit of a wrestle, it's still very friendly... more vocal... but my bitch starts trying to mount the older dog, to which he does not take kindly!!!  She's never done this, ever... to anything.  She's a very submissive girly actually, and is always licking the older boy's face or rolling over on her back for him to sniff her.  Anyway, it's not really a problem, as he will always tell her to get off and leaves it at that, but I'd just be keen to hear others' thoughts on it.  What is motivating her to do that?  Wondering if she's trying to get him to leave pupster alone?  Or maybe she's just randy and has been waiting all these years for him to be distracted enough for her to pounce!!!

It's certainly more interesting having 3 dogs to watch... even better than people watching :-D

Looking forward to hearing people's thought on this!

I would imagine that it's due to excitement :) My 7 year old Aussie bitch had never mounted anything before, but in the last few months she mounts her favourite cuddly toy when she gets into the boot of the car. She loves the car and gets very excited at the thought of a trip, so I have put the mounting down to this :) :)

Yeah, I guess... but find it hard to believe (and a bit sad) that she's never been so excited before!!  What a miserable sheltered existence she's had :-D

LOL - Tara used to get so excited when she got in the car that she used to attack my other dog :( :) :) That stopped some years ago, but it's just the last few months that she has started mounting her gorilla toy :D There is always something new to laugh at :D

My female Lab humps when she is excited, and whenever a new dog comes to stay.....but doesn't mount just sniffs round the other dog air humping!! ;) LOL

I bet it doesn't seem that way to her! It might not be the kind of behaviour you'd want your maiden aunt to see, but in the scheme of things it's not that distressing and at least she's happy--good on you.

My middle Lab girl Puds always humps when she gets in the back of the car :-D

These Labs are very embarrassing aren't they!!?

Just think it's odd she should start at this age, silly thing!

I think she's probably trying to show dominance over your male dog, as she wants to be the leader in the play. Is the pup hers? I have a castrated male Golden Retriever and intact bitch who has just waved goodbye to her first litter. My daughter, who has one of the pups, brings her over to play. The interesting thing with the three of them is that whenever the pup plays with my male dog, the pup's mum immediately trys to take over the play and will either start wrestling with him or hump him.

In our situation, I feel she's trying to keep the pup for herself, and that involves distracting him when he takes an interest in playing with the pup. Don't know if that makes any sense....

> I think she's probably trying to show dominance over your male dog,

I doubt that very much, she is simply being a puppy & humping is part of the"learning"experience.

It's my 3.5 year old bitch doing the humping... when the older male plays with the new puppy.  Although, she still behaves like a puppy at times :-D

The puppy isn't hers, she was spayed after her first season.  Can't imagine why she'd want the puppy all to herself, if I were her I'd take any chance of a break!!!

Thanks for all the comments though... I'm not planning on doing anything about it, I was simply curious as to what started it all!
