Hi everyone,
I had one of my bitches (large breed) mated on day 13 and 15 of her season. She had dried up,and was absolutely ready, but now 3 days on,it's almost as if she has gone into season again.Has anyone had this before? This didn't happen with my other girl,so just wondering if it's normal.Could it be a sign she hasn't caught? All advice welcome.

I wouldn't say it's a sign that she hasn't caught.  Speaking from experience of my own dogs, I've had bitches bleed for a good week after mating, and had normal litters.

Thankyou for that.

i have had that too, sometimes the mating can cause a little bleeding for another few days, most of mine have normally stopped bleeding within 5-6 days of the mating, though one bled last year until day 28 and still had a healthy litter of 7.

I've had one bleed from 1st day of season, till the day she whelped, she had 7 healthy pups.

Thanks for your replies,8 days on from first mating and there's no blood now, just a mucus discharge so I'm happier now. This forum is great!

Any signs that she has taken yet?  I mated a bitch last week on days 18 & 20 after ovulation blood tests.  She was still showing colour on both days of mating and I, like you am worried she may not have taken.  She has previously had a litter and he is also proven.  It does now appear to have slowed right down - so fingers crossed all will be ok.

My girls ften continue to bleed throughout a season even up to 4 weeks from start, whether mated or not.  Hasn't affected them conceiving.
