Ok i was reading an aritical about how dalmatians have High Uric Acid (HUA), apperantly according to the artical all registered dalmatians have it, which causes many (not all) to develop bladder stones and sludge which can cause a blockage. It says that they think there is a link between the spotting gene and the HUA gene. In America some people bred a dalmation to a pointer and the pups had Lower Uric Acid (LUA) which means that they wont have the problems of HUA dogs, so they kept breeding them back to dalmations. the first was about 36 years ago and apperantly at first there spots were smaller and frosty looking but it says that now the problem is solved, it states that current generations are 99.98% dalmatian geneticaly.
They wanted the AKC to acept them and register them as dalmatians but when it went to a vote more people said no. It goes on to say that there is a breeder over here in the UK who wants to import some over and add them to her line, but as the AKC doesn't register them there pups would not be able to be registered over here. According the the artical the breeder has approached the KC about it and has been told that if they can get two championship judges to say that the ULA dalmations are a good of a dalmation they will allow the pups to be registered.
So i though i would ask on here to see what you guys think about it, as ive found it very intresting to read. do you agree or dissagree with doing it?
I think it sounds like a good idea to me as they say they are 99.98% dalmatian and from pictures ive seen they look like normal dalmatians to me, allthough im not familer with the breed standard so i could be wrong.
