I was just wondering if I could have some general advice on how often I should bath my pet pug dog. I've heard that you shouldn't bathe them too often and wondered about how often you should give them a good wash. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

It depends how often he rolls in stinky stuff! With well-brushed, smooth-coated breeds a couple of baths a year should be plenty.

i bath all my dogs about every three months and more if they roll in something horrible. my dogs coats and skin is in great condition andas long as you use a mild shampoo and conditioner if needed then it hasn't done my dogs any harm to bath them on a regular basis.
the breeder of my last dog also said i could bath her a lot more often than i do again as long as i used mild shampoos.
i can't stand dogs stinking my house out so all their bedding and them get a good wash if needed. i find winter they smell more as they get wet when walking but as long as the fires on so they don't get cold afterwards their fine.

I've bathed my dogs once in the past 4 (or more) years because they were all covered in sticky pollen stuff. I have one smelly roller and when he rolls I wash only that area of him, usually around his neck, with the hosepipe and some shampoo.
I've had compliments from non-dog lovers that my house and car don't smell at all doggy. Their beds and blankets are washed regularly and they're groomed daily which I think helps with preventing dog smells.

As long as you use a good quality, mild shampoo and rinse throughly it is up to you. The pugs which we show are bathed before each show so this can be almost weekly, the rest of the gang are bathed possilby every 2 or 3 months, or if they get dirtyroll in something! I also bathe more regularly when they are changing coat, as a good blast with the shower and using conditioner helps the old coat fly out.

I am starting to feel like a total grubber. My staffy has had maybe 6 baths in her lifetime (she's six) and most of them were in the early years. My rottie has had 1 bath and that was after he had spent some time lying in his own urine and the smell was vile. they get brushed a lot so this might make a difference. It would also help if they could fit in the kitchen sink rather than having to traipse them upstairs to the bathroom.
