Hi, I need some advice please
My girl had a litter of pups in april, all vet checked thoroughly before being sold. Vet didnt notice anything wrong. Ha da phone call tonight from one of the new owners saying her pup has got walking dandruff....Im horrified. The mother was treated with frontline and the vet checked her before the pups were born and Im sure if he noticed anything then he would have said so. I have checked her over and I cant see anything on her...no dandruff type flakes or fleas etc. Is it likely that the pup caught it from her...none of the other pups appear to have it, I am in touch with all new owners. What can I do to make sure the mother doesnt get it and is it possible to pass it on to humans.

I would not be too alarmed, you certainly shouldnt feel guilty about it. I would ask the new owner to get the vet to confirm exactly what it is and after that you can ascertain if you need to do anything with yours. Walking dandruff is Cheyletia????? sorry I cant remember how to spell it. It may have caught it from the environment that the pup is now living in, rabbits can get it I think. I would only treat your dog/s if they actually get it.
Thanks Barkingmad16.....I have checked my dogs and found nothing that resembles dandruff or loose flakes of skin. The new owners have only just given the pup her 2nd vaccination and she has not been frontlined yet. I have to ring my vet after 11, so I will have a chat with him.
Thanks again.

it is easy treated so no need to panic. It can be often missed by the eye.

In dog world this week Steve Dean has wrote an article all about walking dandruff.
