i have large breed dogs and today 1 of our girls came into season ,she is 8months old tomorrow ,i also have her litter sister ,is her sister more likely to come into season very soon too? how common is it for a large breed to have a season at this age ? my older girl didnt have her 1st till she was 14months ,i know all bitches are different ,was just abit shocked thats all.

thanks jo x

This seems perfectly normal.  You may find her ister will follow shortly and be "brought" into season by the one already in.  then again she might not for afew months.

Perfectly normal. Even large breeds can have their first season any time from about 6 months of age.

our bully girls are usually that sort of age.

odd that shes so early compared to her siblings though. but you never know, she could take after a grandparent or something.

It is quite normal, although some dogs do differ and some of ours didnt come into heat till they were 16 months.

The earliest ever for me was a bitch that started her first season at 5 months old.  I was amazed, she wasn't a show dog, just a crossbreed pet, and had an awful phantom pregnancy.  She was later spayed.

One of my GRs had her 1st season at 6months and the other GR had her 1st season at 19months.
So very difficult to tell.
My vet did tell me that the more of an athlete the dog is....it can make a bitch have a late 1st season.

6months here followed by second right on 12!
I do hope it doesn't remain so regular.

all sounds very normal to me, most of my large breeds are between 7-9 months for a first, though i have had one that was year and one that was 14 months, 7 months and upwards is perfectly normal in my experience, there is no set rules to these things as well as how long it will last some 2-3 weeks the average but i had one girls 1st season last over 6 weeks!!!  Perfectly healthy girl :)

i would also say its normal,my large breed bitch had first season at 6 and half months and maggie (tiny yorkie)came in and had her first at 9 months my mums large breed dog when i lived at home in my younger days ;-)  had her first season at 6 months too.
i know all dogs are different but if your litter sisters are close then maybe they might come in together,a few of my freinds will tell you(had dogs all theyre lives)that sooner or later bitches that live together petty much follow suit with seasons bit like us i suppose.
give me a buzz havent spoke in ages.xxx
