Me and a friend have changed our dogs across to raw feeding with mixer (we are using CSJ Xtra). We have been using prize choice but after deciding we were going to do this we did an order from Landywoods. This turned up last night, omg the rib bones were huge and the dogs loved them but today have been throwing up and chronic other end if you know what I mean. Is this usual? They have had raw chicken wings regularly and I was surprised by this reaction.

I've also changed my feeding this year, I get meat from the butcher for next to nothing, and also use CSJ as I won't feed only raw (because I'm squeamish about handling meat -hence the dogs get one meal complete, one raw, and I feed the complete!, hubby the raw). I have to say not one of my dogs had any problems at all after their first lot of big bones, quite the opposite -the one that for months had had a loose stomach instantly firmed up.

Hi ,
I changed from landywoods to durham pet foods as my dogs were ill with the landywoods meat, sometimes the meat was defrosting by the time i got it but no problems with the durham meat.

I know the ribs from landywoods they are huge, it will take a few days to adjust, and they do throw up undigested bone to start with, and mine drink more when they've had a good bone but i have no problems with landywoods, give them a few days to settle down, like any new food may make them a bit running but once they get use to it the poo's will be smaller and very solid, and the comments i get about their coats and their condition is great, dinner is a very excitable time now rather than boring oh here she comes with that dry stuff lol
one of the dogs was still being sick this morning, so thats 24 hours of chucking his guts up so it may even not be related to the bones but maybe something he has picked up.
dont regret going over to raw at all, the adore their dinner etc now although I had the problem in that when landywoods delivered it was half way defrosted which isnt ideal also we had ordered a tray of tripe, a tray of chicken and a tray of lamb and ended up with two of tripe as they were having problems with supply for the other - does this happen often with landywoods?
I may just stick with prize choice as that is easy to use and I only have to buy in boxes of 10 although it is of course more expensive than landywoods.

From time to time it does - especially with lamb IME. I've learned to put on my orders if something is not available please advise, so that I can order something that I want rather than what they decide to substitute.
I have also had partially defrosted meats from them, but it hasn't done my lot any harm when I've re-frozen it. I get my bones (lamb ribs) from my local butcher. My experience of ordering bones from Landywoods or Albion Meat Products was that they came all frozen together in one big clump and were a nightmare to separate.
You could always get the bulk buys from Prize Choice (40 x 454g) which are cheaper, but choice is more limited.

I can buy Prize Choice for 55p at a semi local pet shop (usually 65p) so may be worth ringing around. Berriewoods now deliver frozen mince by post - in insulated boxes - and I've heard good things about them. I don't think they have a minimum order either which is handy if you don't have much freezer space.
I had my first delivery from TPMS a short while ago and I've been very pleased with it. Although it was a bit soft around the corners, it hadn't defrosted so I had no trouble with drips or re freezing. The mince is packed in 458g bags so you get more than Prize Choice (only 400g). I paid 34p for chicken and 44p for lamb. Economy beef is 32p and best minced beef is 44p. You do have to order a minimum 120lbs or £40 and I'm not sure how far they deliver. I bought tripe from there too but the packs are a bit big for my dogs (2lb) - they don't want to eat this in large portions so I have to mix it with something else. I may continue to buy tripe from Prize Choice as it's neatly packaged and easier to manage!!
HTH :)
I've just noticed where you are. I know they go down to Taunton so it would be worth checking if TPMS can deliver. You'd be on the same run as me - every two weeks on a Tuesday.

i get my dogs fodd from landywoods and have never had any problems, i have their tripe, chicken wings and chicken carcass, ive not tried their ribs though
Sorry tracey
didn't realise you had problems with the food, you never said! I did wonder why you only got one order. Hope those gorgeous dogs are doing well

My dogs were very ill too after eating Landywoods lamb, I order from Durham or Redcastle now with no problems whatsoever.
Just as an aside Redcastle phoned the other day and are back in business again after a spell of not being able to supply raw :-)

I wasn't actually saying my dogs were ill after eating the lamb from Landywoods, just that sometimes they substitute various meats because of unavailability - usually lamb.
Regarding quality, I've never had a problem with meat that's gone off or is inedible. It has on occasion been partly thawed, but again this hasn't caused any problems.
My dogs certainly prefer LW's meats, which I think is due to the way their products are minced (much coarser than other suppliers).

I'm normally last on the delivery list and my food is fine never thawed, i think landywoods are great, they actually rang me last month to let me know i only had till 10am the next day for a order to be delivered that month i had totally forgotten as my freezers were still quite full up.
When i first gave meaty bones it took probably 3 days for them to stop throwing up bits of bones, they weren't poorly tho and quickly re-ate the bits lol
I had problems with landywoods. The first couple orders were great. Then the meat was smelly and one time I have a case of ground chicken full of maggots.... yuck
errr Thats not good.
They hadnt got lamb bones last time so i think ill try DAF, or shall now look at redcastle thanks for that.

I think for us being in south devon it is just too far for them to deliver too as most of the meat was thawed about halfway through, also they didnt deliver until 7pm which meant my mate had to stay at work late which isnt ideal so we are going to look into someone nearer.
Turns out it wasnt the bones as in the end the sickness only affected two dogs - turns out someone has been chucking away deer carcusses in our local pond!

You're probably right. It's a tricky one as you don't want to chill your new pups but on the other hand it's counter-productive if Tilly is getting herself all agitated because she's too hot. Specially if she jumps out of the whelping box as one of ours did on one occasion

My vet told me that the room temperature should be 65 degrees and sent me off to find out with my indoor/outdoor thermometer when I once phoned him about that very thing. I discovered that it was almost 75 degrees in the room so I opened the patio doors straight away and cooled the room down. My bitch gradually calmed down and stopped panting once she was more comfortable, and as long as the mother is in with the pups, they won't get chilled.
As regards Eclampsia, are you giving a liquid calcium supplement now that she has whelped? Collo-Cal D is the one we use. You can get it off the on-line chemists but I'm sure your vet will also supply it.
Don't know about raw food stockists in your area. You could try your local butcher or Berriewoods deliver to most places. Good luck with your pups :-)
