> Thank you for your email dated. As you can imagine the number of people contacting Nottinghamshire Police is very significant. It is not possible for ACC Davies to respond personally to each email, letter or phone call and therefore the email below was prepared in the hope that it addresses many of the concerns expressed by yourself and other members of the public. We accept that it does not provide answers at this time but we are committed to ensuring that the outcome and learning from this awful incident is made public once the due legal process has been concluded. We recognise that you will still have concern or frustration with the way this matter is being handled but it is not possible to enter into personal correspondence with all the concerned individuals. The scale of public concern and the nature of the concerns will be passed to the Police Authority who's duty it is to hold the Chief Constable to account. Yours sincerely, Superintendent Mike Manley Dear Ms Doble, Thank you for contacting Nottinghamshire Police to express your concerns about the death of our two police dogs on Tuesday 30 June. The incident has caused immense shock and sadness throughout the force. I can assure you that we take this matter very seriously and the actions of the force and the individual will be thoroughly investigated. We reported the death of two German shepherd police dogs to the RSPCA, who are now conducting the inquiry. The welfare of our animals is a major concern to us and we are working closely with the RSPCA to establish what happened. We also informed the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) who have since decided the incident should be investigated internally by Nottinghamshire Police. In due course a report will also be given to the Nottinghamshire Police Authority, who have a duty to scrutinise the work of the force and hold the Chief Constable to account. The bond and the love between the trainers, handlers and the dogs is absolutely outstanding. The dog unit and the individual concerned are absolutely devastated by what has happened and we can only imagine what they are going through after losing two of their own team. You may be interested to know that Nottinghamshire Police has its own Animal Welfare Lay Visitors Scheme. This is a group of dedicated members of the public who ensure that our animal welfare is of the highest standards. They are overseen by the police authority and will be included in our internal investigation. Any updates on this incident will be published in the near future Once again thank you for contacting us. If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us again. Yours ACC DaviesNottinghamshire Police
