Fred has been licking his bottom a lot the last few days, seemed really down yesterday - didnt want to do much,just lazed around looking sorry for himself. Last night he started crying at 3.30am, i went down, let him out in the garden, he didnt do anything but mooch around restlessly, so i brought him and he went back to bed only to start crying again 10 minutes later. This carried on until 4.30am (him crying,me going downstairs etc) and then he stopped, until 6.30am when he started again. At this point i brought him up to bed with me but he was very restless and eventually settled at about 7am.
When we got up this morning i gave him 'Royal Canin Sensitivity Control' food that the vet gave me last time he had a poorly tum. He has suffered bouts of sickness and diarhhea ever since he was a pup but he shown no signs so far of either. Just thought the food would be better just incase as it is bland.
I've trimmed the fur back tight around his bottom incase it was that irritating him and he had his anal glands emptied a couple of weeks ago when we went to the vets for his booster. I knew they needed emtying but i cant imagine they need doing yet and it never normally bothers him but the last few days he has been really under the weather and down in the dumps. Does anyone else have any ideas as to what this could be??

I would think they have refilled and become impacted but without seeing the dog, this is my best guess.

i'd be off to the vets again if he suffers from problems anyway.
Is he going to the poo ok or has that stopped as well? this could be many things ie something as simple as he's eaten something thats scratches his bottom and it's sore or maybe even piles, if dogs suffer from that.
do you think when you had his anal glands done they would of been too rough with him or is he constipated or possible worms.
i could go on and on but i think the vets the best thing to do especially if he's not sleeping and crying like he is, he must be in really bad pain.

Thank you for the suggestions. He is regularly wormed so i know its not that & i was there when he had his glands emptied, was not rough at all, so really no idea.
He slept ok last night and seemed a little perkier this morning so will see.

Well, went to the vets tonight. He has had an anti inflammatory injection and vet squeezed the glands. Been told to go back if it doesnt get better, or gets worse. If it continues he may need to have the glands surgically removed :-(
