Are white boxers more prone to illness/defects than normal coloured ones?

We had one handed in and if they are more prone to illness/defects then it would be very good to know so he can be screened before getting rehomed.

The one handed in is not deaf he seems fine and was neutered with no reports from the vet about a heart problem. He does have small tan spots on his ears and some are coming along his back if that makes a difference and his nose is mostly black with some pink splotches.

They are more likely to be deaf, so he should be BAER hearing tested.  This is the reason that they were usually culled in days gone by when testing wasn't possible.

This boy is ok in that department. He hear just fine. Out in the field today he was playing  and we called him from over 3/4 of an acre away and he came a running full pelt..:-)
I was more concerned about internal defects such as the heart or whatever.

I would think then only skin care in sun was specific to whites, and anything else would be the same for any colour of the breed.

The main issue would be heart, if the parents status is unknown.

If he's not deaf then he will be only be prone to the same things his coloured friends would be.

They sometimes have very pinky faces - lips, chin,around the eyes ect and this can lead to acne ,slightly weepier eyes.
Needing  sun protection on their ear flaps if they are white but thats about it.

Agree with Toolz, other than deafness whites are no more prone to any other health defect than their coloured members of the breed.
The only the thing is sunburn on the extremeties but that's normal routine with any 'white' animal be it cat, dog or horse...

I just put some suncream on mine on his ears when it's sunny as he lays out in it and cooks himself.
I would say mine went through a phase of being 'selectively deaf' but that's just a dog thing I think :)
George looks like a dalmatian when he's wet as all his pigmented skin shows through!  He's got a black muzzle though rather than pink.

Thanks for the replies....I didn't think anything was wrong with him....but I lady was on the phone at work wanting a boxer to keep hers company and when she heard he was white she said no way ..they have more defects than normal colors. His new family will be happy to hear apart from sun cream he will be good .

I do have to say I normally don't care for boxers...but he is such a lovely boy....I can't imagine why he was dumped....I really really like him and if I didn't have enough I would definitely have him.

:) Boxers do soon win over the peeps that say eeewwwww don't like them.
I've had personal experience of this when I had my first Boxer, my Mum said what on earth do you want
one of them for (I'd grown up with German Shepherds).
Well one year I went on a holiday overseas and my Boxer stayed with my Mum and step-dad.
After almost 3 weeks away I came back and Mum said I now understand why you love her so much.
Mind you poor Trudi was as fat and round like a barrel typical conning Boxer made them feel so guilty that they gave
her all sorts of titbits.
She'd fleece any unsuspecting person with her head cocked to one side, pleading eyes and her insistent paws...

Used to have 5 Boxers upto a month ago now sadly down to 4 after losing my matriarch aged 11 years old.
Once you've shared your home and love for a Boxer you always have a soft spot for them.
