*ø¤º°*¨`*:»Wonderful news Brainless!!!«:*¨`*°º¤ø*
It's even more wonderful as it's sooooo well deserved, a Breeder for many New members on here to look to! There is no good luck or good fortune here, its all about your passion and an eye for the breed its health its welfare and its betterment! Well done take a bow Mrs!!!!!!
- By Vanhalla [gb] Date 03.07.09 21:26 UTC
Hear, hear HG!  I'm also of the opinion that Barbara is a singularly clever breeder, with a real eye for the dogs and a proper breeding plan.  She always has the welfare of our breed in mind, and breeds with the intention of providing as wide a gene pool as we could possibly have in this country with our limited numbers, with the intention of benefiting all for years to come.  For example, witness her brave Finnish adventure, and our joint venture (with two others) into the importation of an American dog.  Both actions intended to introduce valuable new lines to the UK, in which endeavour she was successful.  Not only that, she loves her dogs as individuals, and once members of her family, they are family members for life, win or lose.  That's an ethos which I heartily applaud.
A really well-deserved win today, and a real testament to the quality of the elkhounds behind her.  She's a beautiful girl, and she's going to win and win and win and... :-)
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 03.07.09 21:32 UTC
Well done Barbara - I'm so pleased for you.   And I concur totally with HG and Vanhalla - both you and Christine have the soundness of the breed at the core of any breeding you do.   Just wish Jemima Harrison would acknowledge that.   Here are two good breeders today :)

wow, thats tremendous!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 03.07.09 22:36 UTC
Ah thanks guys.

Think my quest for Junior warant points is doomed though.

Won 3 classes today, but only 3 points, so far that makes 7.

In future can't enter Post graduate.

Yay! Well done you!
- By Vanhalla [gb] Date 04.07.09 06:29 UTC
In some ways progressing to Limit so soon will be good, in some ways bad.  More entries in Limit, but of course, you would always have to beat the older dogs.

The same happened to us with Azzi, who won her first CC aged 14 months.  She never did win her JW.
- By Tigger2 Date 04.07.09 06:35 UTC
Fabulously well done Barbara and Inka :-)  I've never bothered about junior warrants, show certificates of merit or the like - what matters is CCs ;-)
- By ChristineW Date 04.07.09 07:48 UTC

> I've never bothered about junior warrants, show certificates of merit or the like - what matters is CCs ;-)

It is nice to have letters at the front and the end of your dogs name though - speaking of one who has 2 dogs with such!
- By Vanhalla [gb] Date 04.07.09 08:10 UTC
Lol Christine and Tigger! :-)  Yes, it is nice to own a dog that has won/continues to win at all levels, and throughout a lifetime, and the additional titles demonstrate that.  Most of our Champions had their junior warrant, and I currently own one that has the ShCM as well.  At the present time, he's currently winning well in Veteran classes too.  He's always been a very good dog.
Edited to say: He's a halfbrother to Inka's grandmother - they come from a very good line of dogs ;-)
- By gembo [gb] Date 04.07.09 09:49 UTC
Congratulations Barabra, you're having a great time of it at the moment! I think you deserved a whole tub of ice cream...Ben N Jerrys maybe? ;) Well done!!
- By Merlot [hu] Date 04.07.09 11:20 UTC
Congratulations Barbara and Inka, what a wonderfull year you are having. You do realize the new Mr Brainless is going to expect to win ALL the time now don't you???
Well Done.

Wow!! well done ;)

No he is pretty realistic and philosophical, delighted that his baby is doing well, but believes the best dog in judges opinion will win, and judges opinions vary.

> It is nice to have letters at the front and the end of your dogs name though

To be perfectly honest I've always viewed them as a bit worthless, like being an Irish Champion. Now before I offend too many people (and I realise it may be too late), I know many thousands of good dogs have held all these titles but I've also seen some pretty mediocre specimens that have simply been dragged round enough quiet shows to win, or were promising youngsters that didn't mature as well.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 04.07.09 16:35 UTC
I think the Irish title has always been fairly worthy and difficult compared to many other countries.
- By TEILO [gb] Date 04.07.09 20:22 UTC
Hey  well done,,, you had a great day,
- By ChristineW Date 04.07.09 22:25 UTC

> To be perfectly honest I've always viewed them as a bit worthless, like being an Irish Champion.

In some very popular breeds JW & ShCM's are quite easy to obtain but in my breed (And Barbara's) where you have very few pups coming out altogether to make sure you get the requisite 3 in the class to obtain points or aren't in a 'PC' breed to get looked at further in the group, these extras to me are achievements.   In the gundog group, it's easy to give group placings at open shows to Cockers, Labs, Vizsla's etc.   My breed isn't reknown for 'shining' so to get enough group points means it has had to do some decent winning & in my breed of the 5 who have won the ShCM (4 dogs & 1 bitch), they all have their titles too!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 04.07.09 23:50 UTC
In my breed we get far fewer dogs achieve a JW than we get champions made up.  Lucky to get any most years.
- By pavlova [gb] Date 05.07.09 10:30 UTC
I,ve just seen this post.
What a brilliant win for Inka well done Barbara shes on the way to her title well and truly now.
- By Vanhalla [gb] Date 05.07.09 11:56 UTC
Yep, Christine - that's the situation in our breed too, as you so rightly say.  It's harder to get the JW than the Champion title in elkhounds these days.  The quality of the dogs at Open Shows is very high too - the entry for the NorthWest of England in elkhounds, for example,  is almost exclusively made up of Champions and CC winners, so the competition is just as tough at Open Shows as it is at Championship Shows.
I think all of our ShCM holders have their titles too, with one exception, and that male has a Hound Group placing at a Championship show and two CCs.  My own male also has a Championship show Group placing, seven CCs and ten Reserve CCs, often in competition against an outstanding rival who recently broke a breed record for CCs, and who has won BIS and RBIS at Open shows, so I don't feel his achievements are at all worthless. :-)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 05.07.09 14:45 UTC
Looking at the stats for 2007, we had 5 exhibits gain their champion title, no JW's or ShCM's, and 10 dogs gettign their stud book numbers.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 05.07.09 18:50 UTC
Just totted up Inka's breed class wins, 10 classes at CC champ shows, potentially 30 points (so far only two classes had enough dogs for JW points, so 6 points).

6 classes at champ shows without CC's and an open show class win, potentially 7 points, but only got 1 point for her PG class win and BOB at Southern Counties.

I really think that as a JW is about young dogs, that the rules should allow BPIB wins with more than 3 pups competing to count if there are not enough dogs in the class, not just BOB, the latter would count for dogs over 12 months, as a pup going BOB would already be BPIB.
