I am on a roll with starting posts this week but on a mission to sort out everything that is annoying me before I come off on annual leave in a weeks time so it doesn't distract me then.

I have 2 metal shoe cabinets to hide away all the shoes but they stink and the smell is getting worse.  the main problem I believe is because wet or damp shoes go in it after being outside so they don't clutter up the hall and cloakroom but being in the dark and warm and wet is causing manky smells to multiply.  It is especially bad with shoes like trainers that are worn without socks - my 2 pairs of nike air rifts are particularly nasty as I often wear them to the park in the morning to walk the dogs.

I have tried febreeze, the washing machine, a solution of odorkill, bicarbonate of soda and waiting until they are dry to put them away but none of it works.  Any other suggestions?  My feet don't smell particularly but those 2 pairs of shoes are nasty and some of the others in the cabinets are not far behind.  I am looking for cheap tips in particular but the only thing springing to mind is not walking the dogs on grass or at the beach and that wouldn't be  much fun.

To be honest if its your trainers that are the problem i'd wash them in the machine with a good washing powder and also use the lenor fabric conditioner , forget about how many differant smells they come in,
the best one is the blue one and its says Frebreeize on it and stay fresh its the best only its gotta be the concentrated one,(AND DONT DILUTE IT USE NEAT a cap full)
wash them on a 30 wash using these and let trainers Dry out side in this weather we'v been having , they will smell wonderful and the smell does last,  but i would say you have to wear socks with trainers or they will always smell bad,
try some ankel socks that will help so much you will find it will be your socks smelling awful not so much the trainer,

I used to sprinkle some bicarbonate of soda in my ex's trainers, it did work...though I found it easier just to get rid of him in the end =]

Bicarb all around the vicinity, it really does clear the smell of all things.
I would love a shoe cabinet of some description!
Any ideas on where to acquire such a thing?

mine are from here http://www.furnitureinfashion.net/product_info.php?products_id=1073 and I have 2 of those nailed to the wall.  the only downside is that they aren't great for boots as you have to fold the boots down but they are really slimline and they have loads of wooden ones too.  They also have an ebay shop which can often be a bit cheaper than the website.

Thank you...I am so dumb sometimes.
I really do have to get somewhere to store the ever increasing selection of footwear.
Karen :)
