I'm a bit worried about my terrier but I'm not sure if he's just fed up, hot or is actually poorly.

We've just come back from 2 weeks holiday. A friend moved in here so my dog was never alone and had lots of excercise and fun - possibly too much fun !.
Since we've come back he's gone very quiet. He hasn't eaten since Sunday evening (had about 3 mouthfuls yesterday) and doesn't want to walk.
I'm not sure if I can blame it all on the weather or if he's just very sad. I know he loves us, and we him - but he is so spoilt when the pet sitter is here - she loves him too and is always tearful when she leaves.
He managed a short walk yesterday evening and his toilet is fine but his tummy is gurgling away and is making quite a squeaky sound - very loud actually. It could be because he's hungry or maybe poorly.......although he's been into the garden this morning and didn't eat grass......the normal sign we have when he feels 'off'.

I just wondered if your dogs change during very hot weather and am I worrying a bit too much. I'll pop a cool damp towel down for him to lie on in a while, see if that helps. Any other suggestions ?.

Thank you.

If he's not eating then i'd say thats more to do with a poorly tummy than the weather but then all my dogs still eat when it's hot. Try and keep his fluids up on hot days ie if he's not drinking much try putting a little milk in the water or putting gravy on his food for extra liquid. another thing my dogs love is ice cubes, they crunch them up in the garden, helps keep them cool and gives them more liquids.
He may well be missing the extra attention he gets from the dog sitter but if thats the case then with in a few days he should be back to normal.
If he doesn't want to walk then don't force him, my dogs don't have their normal energy levels in the hot weather. maybe play in the garden and practise training through play which tires a dog out more than running around but he want get so hot. also he'lllove all the attention and rewards you give him.
dogs tummies always make a lot of load noise when their empty but if your worried take him to the vets just to put your mind at rest. i expect though they will suggest either not feeding him for 24 hrs depending on his age or i give my dogs boiled rice and chicken for a couple of days instead of their normal food as this is much lighter on their tummies and they soon get back to normal.
if you try this and he's still the same after a couple of days then go back to the vets.
Do you think your dog sitter may of given him treats he's not used to while you were away? this could of upset his tummy. Make aure you keep his fluid levels up even if he want eat and i'm sure he'll be fine.
Your dog sitter may of over exercised him in the hot weather and this is the result of doing too much.
So to sum it up either take him to the vets now or give him a couple of quieter days and see how he goes if you change his food etc
let us know how you get on.

Thanks Bear
He has been out today and I've decided it's the change in routine that's upset him - plus the fact he isn't getting his own way all the time (he's obsessed with tennis balls and I think every trip out when we were away involved them !). He was his normal self when I got the tennis balls out this morning and opened the front door !. Crafty monkey !. He came straight in afterwards and ate.
My husband had trouble getting him to go on a short walk a while ago though......no tennis balls !.
I think he has us twisted round his little paw.......bless !.
