I have fallen in love with Tibetan Terriers, Havanese and Maltese, and am currently looking into them all for a possible new show dog.
However, as I like my dogs to be "multi-functional" I would also want to keep up my agility competing with this dog too - my BC currently goes to ringcraft and obedience classes once a week and agility x2 a week, and this new dog will do the same, although will probably not join in with obedience lessons (I don't like leaving anyone at home!)
Am I deluded in thinking a show coated tt, hav or maltese could potentially do agility? I am not talking full competition agility, but at least once a week classes.
The other breed I am looking at is a poodle (in mini or standard size) but although I think this would be the most likely of the choices to be able to do this, I am worried about the show clipping, as I would need to be entirely self taught.

I know someone who shows and does agility with her bichon. I can't see a problem with the TT or Havanese coat, but wonder if the Maltese would be too long to be practical? Miniature poodles do very well at agility as they're so clever and fast :-)
I think of them all the maltese would be the most impractical, but I was wondering if it was wrapped somehow it might be able to work?
Am pleased to hear that its not a totally impossible dream! I have my name on the list for a TT pup from someone on the forum, but there is no current time scale and I am being drawn to the maltese and havs too!
I love poodles, but as I said, the thought of the show coat scares me as it would need to be self taught :-s
Hi, I'm new here. My name is Ana and I have 2 Havs I'm totally in love with. I show both of them and haven't started agility but would very much like to. They're very agile and love it. My breeder told me that as long as the agility equipment didn't have any tearings or bad parts where the hair can snag they will be fine. In Havs, their hair won't go all the way to the floor like a Maltese, Yorkie or Shih Tzu, so they should be fine I've been told. Just make sure you put a little topknot to keep the hair away from the eyes.

Depending who you got a poodle from they may be able to help you with a show coat, its not easy but then if its what you really want its worth doing :) Folk have the wrong idea about keeping show coats they think the dog cant do anything but stand and look pretty incase its coat gets in a mess, my 8 month old puppy got best puppy in breed at border union last sunday and this sunday he was up to his neck in salty water at the beach with our bernese :) :) He certainly doesn't look pretty today but he will by this evening after i have washed and dried him. Go for it, get a poodle!!! Just think of added bonus of no hairs around the house :) I won't lie and say its easy to learn but everyone has to start somewhere and if you go to a reputable breeder they should be willing to help you. Go on poodles love doing obedience , agility etc.

The litter sister to one of mine (CKCS) does agility in a decent show coat and won a big class at a breed championship a couple of weeks ago. She also has the KC bronze, silver and gold and working towards working trials qualification.
Her hips, patellas and elbows have been x-rayed before she started of course.
