Hi, does anyone have any experience with any of the phones that are specifically designed for those with dexterity and or sight problems?

I bought my Dad a basic Nokia but he finds it difficult to use; he doesn't really understand, or need, the functions and the buttons are too small.  He just can't see the numbers or the screen properly without taking his glasses off and peering AND when he dials he pushes several numbers at once!  He's in a Care Home at present and feeling a bit cut off.  He's welcome to use the phone but has to ask for it each time so he'd rather have something permanently available to him.

Have a look at this link.

There are other phones by the same co so it needn't be this one but their products seem to have good reviews as simple mobiles for old folk!!  Do any of you know of this company or any other I should look at?  Thanks

If you can get hold of them, some of the older nokia's are great and can pick them up cheeply unlocked so you just have to buy the sim.

My father is blind and uses a normal mobile, but i have seen (a long time ago) a phone by Vodafone that might help alot. It has extra large buttons 1-0, and two buttons for call and end call. It looked like a home phone but with a large print screen. Ebay might have something similar.

I would be interested to see what people say as I was talking to mum last week about this. I have seen one advertised in a saga magazine but cant find it now ,typical.
Mum is trying to learn how to use her nokia but there are too many functions for her to worry about and I think thre bigger clearer button would be nice even if she can see better than me atm!

Go to a phone shop, for example, Carphone warehouse and get their advice. My mum picked up one for my Nan for £15 !!! because she just wanted a basic phone that my nan could use to call in an emergency if she needed to. They directed her to a phone that was a flip top (so she didnt accidently put it her bag without locking it and call someone) and also, some phones have a function that enables all numbers to appear a lot larger - you would just ned to know how to take it off the default settings. Im sorry i cant tell you more but there are phones out there.

Surprisingly my nan is now very good with her mobile and has got to grips with it very well considering shes approaching 82 :-)  I remember the first time i saw her name on my phone calling me, i panicked thinking she'd had an accident and she informs me she's sat in M&S having a coffee and fancied a natter :-) Theres me thinking she was only going to use it in an emergency, lol :-)
