My girl whelped a litter of seven on Wednesday and has been very picky over her food since then.  Was wondering what you enticed your bitches with to encourage them to eat the week straight after whelping?  She is normally on JWB with mince, chicken or fish added but will not eat anything that has her JWB added to it !!!

Ive had same problem my bitch whelped 2 days ago and shes usually fed on royal canin and end of pregnancy RC puppy food but today wouldnt touch any of it not even doctored with chicken or beef. so i dug around in my dog food pouch box and i had 2 trays of butchers puppy and she has gobbled it up in record time, ok so its not as good quality as RC but whats the use in that if shes not eating it anyway!
Good luck with your litter

Try raw mince.  The oldies used to say that red meat makes good milk! :)

Just had exactly the same problem with my girl too....sardines worked with her , she will eat them in tomato sauce in oil or brine , she lived on them for the 1st week then gradually I would add a sprinkle of RC and now the puppies are 4 weeks old she is back on a normal diet.

Just wondering, do you add water to her food? I found that when my bitch had very young puppies, her mouth was sore from all the licking. She had some sores on her lower lip, so I added more water than normal to soften the food.

I also added minced raw green tripe, the smell is VERY attractive to dogs... and it didn't upset her stomach at all. You can buy it in frozen blocks at the pet shop. I'd only try a small amount to begin with just in case...

Other than that, try a gruel with 2 cups oats, 2 cups water, 1 tbsp complan (plain), 1 tbsp glucose powder, 1 egg, 2 tbsp honey and 1 cup goats milk. Cook in a saucepan, add honey after and cool with goats milk. My bitch would get it down her neck quick as lightening even when she didn't want to eat anything else...

Good luck, I'm sure she'll be eating fine soon.

Is it warm? mine will only take fresh warm food and fluid.  I soak the biscuit and add freshly cook but blended chicken, mince or fish and they love it. I sit at the edge of the box and hand feed it to them also :-)  I make sure the food is well soaked for the fluid..
