Hi
It will be interesting to hear others views on this one. Has anyone been placed at Blackpool yet? If so what do you think of the prize cards?
For those not going, all they are giving is a cobbydog card printed with the Blackpool logo. I didnt show yesterday but if I'd paid £20+ for an entry and received one of those I would have been disguested. They are the type of card you win at many open shows and then at some they are accompanied by a rossette.
I know you only get cards at Ch Shows unless you win BOB or similar but normally they are something printed especially for the show.

I print our Obedience shows prize card(nowhere near as many as a Ch show I know)I use photographic paper & photographs of either a dog from a previous show or one of our GSDs in the show stance. I put the photograph into pale black & white & tint them for each place & then over print them with the show, class, judge etc If I can do that I don't see why a professional printer couldn't produce better cards for the Ch Shs. I never liked the photo of a rosette one that Pedigree used to give the Ch Shs. One of the Ch shows has really nice cards, but for the life of me I cannot remember which

I'd imagine they HAD to cut costs after last year especially considering a lot of people in working and pastoral will have got free entry this year. The cards don't worry me, it's not like you can do anything with them. :)

I use to think some of the cards were lacking in something until I went to live and show the dogs in Germany. You get naff all for any placings there unless you got BOB or it is a club show or if your club have specials on at any of the bigger shows. The cost of entries where at the time nearly double what you pay in the UK aswell which made it worse. I now appreciate anything that I get at our shows.

Weird how countries differ, Spain is only slightly more expensive and the prizes you get even for second and thirds are amazing. I do think the least that should be given at a champ show for how much we pay is a rosette.

In Sweden ALL you get is a small plastic ribbon, if you want any rosette for any placing you have to pay for it.

Yes we were at Blackpool and got one yesterday, they are pretty poor.

I like the retro Birmingham National ones.
In a way I like the cards as I can use them as shopping lists or something afterwards lol! Rosettes I'd feel much more guilty about chucking away... at least cards are easily recyclable! ;-) just looking on the bright side :-)
Doesn't really compare does it, to the companion shows run for charity yet can still manage to get rosettes & prizes down to VHC in many prizes...

Yes Brainless me too. Just been looking at some old ones from when we started showing (20 years ago) standards certainly have dropped!! I paste prize cards in scrapbooks along with judges crit (if printed) so I can look back and see if it's worthwhile entering under that judge again in the future.

Yes.. I had 3 placings today.. not really interested in the prize cards.. I am happy to go buy my rosettes.. I am more tickled at getting placed lol.. prize cards are not 'that' important (psst.. I am only saying that cos they weren't nice red ones ) :-)
They are a bit poor compared to other shows, but after last year and the costs that have had to be absorbed from the disaster.. on the whole I think the cards were OK..

companion shows are usually sponsored.. and rosettes are usually donated.. I know this.. because I sponsor a companion show annually.. and it costs me a small fortune lol
I have just got back and we won minor puppy bitch. I was gobsmacked that we didn't get a better placecard. We often pick these up at open shows and have also had them from companion shows. For a champ show at £20 odd pound an entry i don't really think its good enough. Its fair enough that they are cutting costs but i don't think its giving much back to the much needed exhibitor with just this tatty bit of card.

What would people prefer? increase in entries and better peices of card? I pay to enter my dogs to go to a show and hope to win a class or more....Cards for us don't go anywhere but when I can say "My bitch is unbeaten in limit bitch so far this year" thats says something :) I don't know where the cards are now.

I told my husband about this thread and his reaction was "I wish they'd just do away with cards at shows full stop." We see no use to them at all. I also REALLY think Blackpool this year is a special case -how many other shows has had to be abandoned after all?

I used to put crits in a book until I was at a friends house and saw that she pasted them on the back of the cards, so I did that for a while, but I don't get the papers anymore.
I keep all prize cards (with pasted crits) in a polypocket in each dogs folder, a new one each year and I put a cover sheet with the results on for the year.
What I did think was nice however was the fact they gave car stickers to the winners of Best of Breed, Best Puppy etc. Since Pedigree Chum stopped their sponsorship this is the first sticker I have received :)

This is the reason why I think cat showing is by far better value for money!

just read on a Afghan group that someone who has Afghans had their Motorhome stolen at the show today
This is the reason why I think cat showing is by far better value for money! But you can't enter a cat show for just £20......... I'd much rather they cut it by a tenner down to 20 and had no rosettes. The way entries are falling it's very much needed.

There's not many dog shows at just £20 now and adding the car parking costs on top....... ;-)

I seem to find them! With cats it's £30 plus catalogue PLUS always an extra ticket for a second person to get in, so one cat can end up costing over £40. It normally costs me £76 or £77 to enter 3 dogs for a champ.show (going with recent online entries) with tickets, everything paid for (catalogue, car park) so that works out at only £25 per dog. Except for our forthcoming breed show the cost is only £50.50 for 3. Could never happen with cats. :)

I was very happy and i was just making a comment that was all.
I won best import register but did not get a sticker at all .I couldn't work out who got stickers and who didn't -maybe it was just BP and BOB? I got one for BP but none for BOS. It was very nice to get a sticker again though. :)
