I need to lose 1.5 stone but my sticking point is what to eat ( other than fruit & veg ) when i am feeling peckish between meals and when i get the 'nibbles' at night .
Also , i am looking for a low-fat type cookbook with meals that the whole family will enjoy .
Thanks in advance .

Slimming World have some great recipes on their website, I'm gonna be watching this thread with interest as I too need to get a crack on with loosing some weight. My weaknesses are latte's although I have started having skinnies, bacon rolls in the morning before work & I get the munchies about 6ish when I'm on late at work & seem to eat anything I can get my hands on!!
Quorn ham rolled around cottage cheese and pineapple :)
One crumpet with low fat spread on
Bananas!

Weight Watchers are an excellent way to lose weight, giving you help with portion size/control, they also have a great range of cooking books with lovely low fat recipes :-)
I have found Ainsleys low fat cook book quite good for interesting recipes...there are some nice chicken/turkey burgers and sticky lemon chicken and chicken curry made with low fat yoghurt...although, for me, its mainly recipes where you need to go out and buy a lot of the ingredients especially for it as its not stuff I have in regularly, its great if you are good at planning your meals in advance! I have been following my own made up diet and have lost nearly 4 stone now! (although there is not much I have made up about it...just eating less of the stuff I know is bad and much more of the stuff I know is good...works a treat!!)
oh and for nibbles I really love cashew nuts, snack-a-jacks and often have a low sugar jelly made up for desserts so would just have a bit if I were peckish. I always have bananas in for snacks aswell!

When i was dieting afer the birth of my second child, I would have 2 daily snacks of 3 wholewheat jacobs crackers, with a small spread of low fat pate and a thin slice of cucumber on each one and a handful of grapes. My breakfast would be porridge (with either a teaspoon of honey, brown sugar or jam) and 1 poached egg on 1 slice of wholemeal bread, Lunch would be a small salad with either prawns or tuna (no dressing!) and dinner would be a meat and 2 green veg (like brocolli and cabbage or peas and spinach), all washed down with water.
Exercise would be 2 long walks daily.
I lost a stone in 6 weeks and I'm doing it again at the moment so I can look tip top in my bikini for my hols.
It really is best to have a big healthy breakfast and then a medium sized lunch and a small dinner.
Good luck anyway !! =]

cockles are a great nibble if you like shellfish they are a good source of protein. A serving of cockles will be a good source of Riboflavin, and a very good source of Niacin and Iron.
also yummywith vinegar :-)

That's very similiar to the diet that one of our departments uses for people who need to lose a lot of weight quickly. I did it for a week and lost 7lbs a couple of years ago.

that sounds good - I take it there were no desserts at all eg no yogurt or anything like that?

My friend whos a dietician and personal trainer done the diet plan for me....she said that you are allowed to treat yourself but the less sweet tasting food you have the better because craving for more could kick in...I geniunely never felt the urge for any though because I was quite determined....the results were amazing and everyone noticed a change on week 2.
Like i said if I did crave sweetness I would have grapes or a slice of melon, bananas were off the menu as they are high in natural sugars or something like that, She told me that if I did feel the urge to snack throughout the day then dried fruit from health stores is a great subsitute although I only liked the dried apple.
I will say my skin looked better from it all aswell.
Ive had a nutricianist do me a diet which gives me a lot of choices. My prople is having the last meal, if I leave the office around 5ish, then its shopping or gym, then dog walking. I really get home around 7pm starving and if OH does not get in until 8ish we are having a meal too late.
I have porrige or muslieu in the office about 9am, lunch is salad based with Go Ahead yougury biscuits for a sweet touch and dinner is white meat or fish with salad or veg. I have picky bits of Nairns Oak Bakes (taste like Cheeslets!) mixed seeds and nuts, yogurt rasins again for sweet rush and you can eat sorbet.
I also make smoothies with banan's, ice, soya milk and maduka honey.
I have not had full fat milk, cheese, butter ect for months. But its hard work when the sun is shining.

Sounds superb, could you maybe post a few more ideas for meals?
