My new pup has the most awfull kc name. If i wanted to could i change it or is she stuck with it for life? She is such a pretty girl and hopefully will grow into a gorgeous elegant adult and the name argghhh. I know it really doesnt matter but if i do decide to show her i want her to have a nicer name.

Its actually gaelic but when translated is lovely.

As far as I know, registered names are unchangeable except for the addition of another affix.

As far as I'm aware you can change them but with the permission of the breeder? Worth giving the KC ring just to find out what options there are.

I know my friend had her pup's name changed as it was something like "super star" and she thought it might sound a bit pretentious so had it changed but not too sure did she ask the breeder for permission

I have changed names of dogs I have bought it. My freind just changed 2 this week.

It is roughly £50 but you have to get permission from the breeder and there is certain criteria HOWEVER the KC have been very good about my changes that all fell out of the time frame and reasons.

It's £30 Blue.

LOL That's the one :-)  £30 plus an affix addition if you want one and that HAS to be added at the time of name change as it won't be added later.

I am thinking the breeder might be offended if i change the name, they have gone to the trouble of giving her a gealic name which does mean something. its just horrible lol.   I would be happy with the translation. Ill have a think, hubby says he isnt fussed and as she is being a real monster at the moment the name suits her. :o))

you can change it but the breeder must agree and sign the form too, i think,as someone i know wanted a name that was very personal to them for their puppy.regards,roy.

As someone who names her pups with foreign word names, I wouldn't be too happy with someone wanting to have ti changed, unless it was another on the same lines/theme/letter.

Perhaps you and the breeder can get together and think of an alternative that you prefer (perhaps you could tell her you can't pronounce it!) and that also follows her theme for the litter.

Expect it to be another Gaelic name, though, and possibly starting with the same letter.

Perhaps she won't be offended if you suggest you change it to the translation? You can only ask ...
