Hey guys,

My bitch had her first mating 23 days ago, within a few days of her last mating she started to have a yellowish discharge, I took her to my vets and she was not overly worried and put her on a short course of ABs, within 2 days the discharge was back, this time it was bright green and didnt smell too good at all, vet again was not overly worried and said she showed no signs of pyo and she is now on her second course of ABs.

Today she has been very quiet and off her food for the last 3 days, she will however accept sardines mixed in with her food and other treats like ham and yogurt, she seems to want to sleep all the time and looks very sorry for herself- could she actually be pregnant?? ( this was to be our 3rd and final attempt) or could it be something more sinister???

Thaks in advance

Kally

I would be going back to the vet again - and asking for an ultrasound scan to check for signs of a pyo if the vet doesn't find anything obvious. It's too soon to scan for pups, but a pyo ought to show if there is one - and if there is it's not something that wants leaving. Even if there isn't a pyo it might be wise for her to be on a prolonged course of antibiotics given the discharge - but you need to discuss that with the vet. Fingers crossed it's not a pyo, but if she was my bitch I'd be back down there.

Thanks for your reply-I shall go to the vets in the morning to put my mind at rest,I did origionally ask to have an ultrasound to check for pyo but again, she did not think it was needed.

I also wanted to add that the discharge stopped again within a day or so after the AB jab she was given and there hasnt been any since then.

She hasnt vomited food at all but did bring up some yellow bile this afternoon.

They can get 'morning sickness' if they're pregnant as well, so hopefully it's that rather than anything - but I would want to be sure. What's her drinking like?

my girl vomited some bile  day 21 & day 23 , and had a discharge around 7 days after mating .  scan confirmed her pregnancy at 28 days.
every couple days or so i do notice a little discharge but its normal.  Hopefully your girl will be pregnant too. good luck

She isnt drinking more than normal, and was her normal self for her morning stroll, will be popping over to vets to check her out today anyway..

I would also ask for a scan to check for a pyametra as i nearly lost my rotti to a closed one so no discharge but as its after a season i would just double check, hopefully its just related to her being pregnant
