I heard drilling earlier, and just peeped through my kitchen window which faces on to the side of my neighbours house and they have installed a satellite dish. I have never ever liked the horrid things. They are ugly and horrible. Why oh why do people have them?

LOL
This house is full of technology and that is just part of it.
Not just for the extra tv channels but the abillity to have and use sky plus which negates the requirement for video/dvd recorders.
There are many homes now that have them more do than dont.
Probably one day the ugly dishes will be replaced with something neater.

Horribly ugly and intrusive. Luckily no houses in our road have a visible one.

is it one of the small sky dishes?where i live, ther has been so much redevelopement and appartment blocks going up,that the builders had to supply all the locals with a dish to improve the signal to the tellys.I have never plugged mine in though, mainly because i can't bear all the stand-by lights on everything these days.My kithen looks like a runway at night, even the hallway with the smoke alarm light and the mouse repellant flashing away.

I wasn't even aware you could fit them yourself. Looks like an old second hand one. They are so ugly. I thought you could get set top boxes that do the same?

What would worry me more than anything else would be being able to see a neighbour's house full stop -cannot imagine anything worse. As it is, all I can see is fields and cows and unspoilt views. :) If I still had neighbours I honestly wouldn't mind -something ugly on the side of something ugly makes no difference.

Marriane me too i feel the same. Would love to live miles away from everyone or on a little island but until i win the lottery im stuck looking at ugly satellite dishes.

Set-top boxes only pick up a certain amount of digital (and none at all when it's raining).

Luckily there's not been anything on Sky that I'm desperate to watch, so there's no problem!

There was a programme on Sky this evening about cat shows, would have loved to have seen that but alas I can't justify the cost for it all when it's just ONE channel I am interested in -Animal Planet. :(

People have them because they want better TV.  Must admit we don't have one but next door does, and they have CCTV over their garden and wires all down the back of the house...

But then again it's only the back and how often do I look at the back of their house?  Not very often at all!

some of us have no choice..not just for watching TV.. but I need it for radio

I think they are very unsightly, but where I live.. its the only way to be able to watch any television or listen to radio.. yes.. I have to listen to the radio from my TV lol..

If you look out of your window and see a Sat Dish.. the view could not have been up to much to begin with.. A Wall?

Very amusing observation.
I too am surrounded by other properties and my garden is tiny...soon to be a large patio....:(
The advantage is less than 5 minutes to walk to somewhere beautiful.

well it could be worse could have been an anti dog barking sensor they installed,

i had my dish put on the chimney stack instead of the house front as i didnt want it looking tacky on the front of the house but now me neighbours both side have them makes me glad i went for the chimney as  theirs do look ugly ,

:-D

You should see my next door neighbour's yard... that makes a satellite dish look beautiful. Wish the neighbours getting a satellite dish was my biggest concern with them! :-(
