After 3 weeks of hell at work (60+ hrs & 6 day weeks) I'm looking forward to letting off some steam this wknd in Edinburgh on a hen wknd, the night time is sorted but I was just wondering if anyone has some suggestions of things to do on Saturday? Castle maybe? Some of the girls are going shopping but I'm skint & would like to explore the city - any recommendations?

A Ghost walk (we meant to do this last time we were down) :-)

The Edinburgh Dungeon :-)

Do one of the bus tours that leave from Waverley bridge (opposite entrance to the train station). Your ticket lasts all day so you can drive around and if you see/hear something you fancy you can hop off then back on again later to continue tour :-)

Link for the tours, tickets are bought from the sellers on the street at Waverley or from the driver.

We did one of those tours when we were in Edinburgh years ago. Highly recommended! We also did the tour of Mary King's Close, which was quite interesting if you're not claustrophobic. Very basic, though - I was expecting more than empty rooms. But it might have been improved since.

I think the farmers market is on every Saturday these days up behind the castle, then you can walk round to the Grassmarket up the hill to the Royal Mile and the castle or if the weather is good just sit in Princes St gardens and watch the world go by. There's also the Museum of Childhood on the Royal Mile which is good at making you feel old when you see toys that you played with, there's the art gallery on Princes St or if you feel energetic you could go up Arthur's Seat!

I'd vote for the bus tours too.
We went last year and had a fantastic time....perhaps as it was just me and OH and nobody else!

Karen :)
