the dog i show has a lot of tummy feathers which are white He is always cocking his leg and of course pees on his feathers I try to wash him down a few times a week but sometimes the wee smell is so strong it can be more
Is there anything i can put on his feathers when he,s clean that will act as a good barrier against the wee?

Someone recommended the cornflower talc - (the one with the purple lid from HUB International?
I haven't tried it yet as my baby's fur is till short but will buy at the next show

Washing or at least wiping down with a scented baby wipe is the only way to reduce the smell, cornflour talc will dry it up and 'The Stuff' - a silicone based spray - coats the white hairs between baths to stop the urine discolouring the coat but does little to mask the smell.

i think ill try The Stuff as if i can use something that will act as a barrier and keep the urine from soaking in to much hopefully it will reduce the smell well thats just me thinking that

Just a thought but has he got feathering on the end of his winkle?    I've noticed that those dogs who have an inch or two rarely pee on their legs/feathering as the winkle hair directs the wee onto the ground :)  might be worth encouraging if you've been snipping it off ;)

ETA  bicarb diluted and used as a wash might help with the smell - it neutralises odours ;)  but he'd probably preer his natural 'perfume' :-D

BTW 'THE STUFF' is great as a protector

My two Cavaliers get very sticky tummies and catch their leg feathers in between baths. I use this product:

(Sorry - I can't do posh links!!!)  The mousse is really good stuff, no sticky tummies and it deals with the smell really well.

I have to agree with Dill here, as a new Cavalier owner, I snipped off Harvey's tinkle hair when it appeared and couldn't wait for it to grow back!
