Hello, I was wondering if you could help, Is it necessary to have the same brand vaccination?

My pug have had Nobivac DHPPi and Nobivac Lepto 2 when she was 8 weeks and at 10 weeks Duramune DAPPi+LC. My vet said that theses two different brands of vaccinations have not been tested and advise another Duramune vaccination at 12 weeks. Is this correct?

Yes, it's important that the same brand of vaccine is used for the initial two injections, because not all varieties are compatible. She needs either another Nobivac or Duramune at 12 weeks.

This is why most breeders don't give their pups the first injection in case the 'new' vet uses a different brand.

From the Nobivac site
Primary course vaccination:

A single injection should establish active immunity to canine distemper, infectious canine hepatitis and disease caused by canine parvovirus infection in dogs of 10 weeks of age or older.   Where earlier protection is required a first dose may be given to puppies from 6 weeks of age, but because maternally derived passive antibody can interfere with the response to vaccination a final dose at 10 weeks of age or older is generally recommended. For an optimal response to the parainfluenza component, animals should be vaccinated twice, 2-4 weeks apart with the final vaccination at 10 weeks of age or more.

From the NOAH site
Primary Vaccination:
Puppies 6-10 weeks of age:
The initial vaccination course consists of two vaccinations. The first vaccination should be given between 6-8 weeks of age and the second vaccination should be given from 10 weeks of age.
Puppies of at least 10 weeks of age:
Two vaccinations should be given with an interval of 2-4 weeks between doses.
Booster Vaccination:
An annual booster vaccination with one dose of Duramune Pi + LC is recommended. Advice on correct administration

The reason why some vets have switched to Duramune is that their protocol is still for annual boosters(nice money earner)

From the Intervet site

Are annual boosters really necessary?

So, to simplify the previous point: yes, annual boosters are still necessary against some diseases. But not all.

Each year, on your annual visit, your vet will administer only those vaccines needed to maintain protection. These days the vet's primary objective is to use the minimum number of vaccine components while at the same time maintaining the optimum protection for your pet. Some vaccines for dogs are now licensed to provide three years protection against parvovirus, hepatitis and distemper.

The reasons vet say 2 vaccinations is the first one rules out all the maternal antibodies if given before 12 weeks of age, so they need a second to put the antibodies back.

Your dog has had 2 sets of jabs the immunity should now be established so shouldn't need a 3rd.

Even though both were given before 12 weeks? (If given too soon, the maternal antibodies prevent uptake of the vaccine, not the other way around. The maternal influence has waned by 12 weeks.)

8 and 10 weeks is the norm, but it needs to be the same brand.

If a vaccine is give at 12 weeks then one vaccine is all that is needed.  However, most vets advise having vaccines early on as you say 8 & 10 weeks (as in this case).  The reason 2 are given before 12 weeks is that the first one cancels out the maternal antibodies, hence the 2nd jab puts the antibodies back, regardless of brand, antibodies are antibodies whichever way they enter the system.  As this puppy has had 2 shots now the antibodies should be present.

My latest pup had his first vaccination done by the breeder, my vets didn't carry this vaccination so i had the choice of finding another local vet to get the 2nd jab done, have the breeders vet send the vaccination down to mine or start again.
I opted for finding another local vet who had the same vaccine - no problem..

As your's has had 2 different sets i would be going for the week 12 3rd jabs or the Duramune

In response to Perry i know some vets are happy for 2 different brands to be used and they see it as being covered while others disagree. There isn't anything i have found which confirms either way which is right or wrong.
