Having a sweetie bar at our wedding & want some popular suggestions for what sweets to buy....my fave is white chocolate mice & fizzy cola bottles so we'll definitely be having them....what's yours?

An alternative to jelly babies!

Strawberry one, yum yum yum.  Pluse you get them all in different colours now so if you had a theme in mind.... ;-)

I used to buy 2 ounces of dolly Mixtures,not because i particularly liked them,but so i could sort them into shapes and colours.I've led a very simple life!And lovely Jelly Babies,yummy and liquorice Catherine Wheels,and Sherbert Dips(not the same now) and liquorice torpedoes.

pineapple chunks, aniseed balls, Fruit salad, blackjacks, (am I showing my age now :-O)  Don't think they do pacers & spangles anymore though.

ooh yes, sherbert dippers, space dust, freddie frog (when he was only 1p, not 15p!!!)

Strawberry and Lemon Sherbets, Kop Kops, Lemon Bon Bons, Fish and Chips (white chocolate), Mojo Chews....
The list could go on and on :-)

You could try A Quarter Of or Chocolate Buttons but I'm not sure how cheap they are.  Alternatively you might be able to buy caterers rates at somewhere like Makro or do a deal with your local sweetshop - they'd probably be pleased to have a big customer.

Swizzle lollys :) i love them and still buy them sometimes :)  i got a load of obscure ones and did parcels of them as xmas presents. People had to guess what the were. Things like sweet tobacco and cough candy twists :) :) :) lea :)

i used to love coffee walnut whips but they dont do them anymore!

Ooo, tom thumb pips, strawberries and cream, ( they also do rhubarb and custard) powdered teeth, I like the jelly ones too! The big jelly strawberries and the sugary foam ones, those pink and white mushrooms. Used to sell sweets, candyfloss, honeycomb and fudge etc from a kiosk, most of our stuff was delivered but places like, costco, makro, booker and bestway wholesalers (just google them and I am sure they'll come up) also sell large tubs of weigh up or penny sweets. I always loved making my own toffee apples yum yum :-D

That is why I did not include Giant Gobstoppers.. LOL

I still love smarties and wilkinson's have a very good pick-and-mix,with loose smarties and jelly babies and lots of other stuff,and they are very reasonable,price-wise.sounds like you're having a lovely time planning all the treats for your guests.:)

Spangles and cadbury chocolate bears with cream inside....nobody remembers them in our house,i think they were in the seventies.

Cherry lolly with square fizzy things in that looked like sugar lumps, cough candy twist,tom thumb pips, toffee twist with chocolate inside,finger of fudge type sweet inside a toffee and nut coating,everlasting toffee strip, i could go on forever.

my team suggest, wham bars, irn bru bars, choclate golf balls, rhubarb and custards, blackjacks, fruit salads, mojo, sugar paper, candy ciggarettes, dib dab, popping candy, push pops! drumsticks.

i am also told i must insist on vise versas though i don't think they exist any more.

Ooh I remember the cadbury's bears with the cream inside although they were sickly sweet if I remember rightly.

My favourites were cherry lips and floral gums and spngles especially the cola ones.

I also loved what we called stew of candy from the local candy shop. Now up here we call dust stew and it was basically all the scrapings from the various tins and trays that they made their candy in. It was all put in tiny paper bags and sold to us kids for 2p but they only sold it one day a week and it sold out pretty fast although a bag would last us all week. lol

Yes thats right they were very sweet and creamy like cream eggs....glad i didnt dream it.

I have a serious sweet tooth and remember just about all mentioned.
There is a particular loose sweet that seems not to be around anymore but I would love to again, thaey were called Crispets.
I am ashamed to think of how many I still get through now of all things....

i used to love the monkey nut shaped hard sweet and when you sucked it thu to the middle their was a peanut in the middle,
and not a sweet i know but KP crisps were my favs to

Oh WOW Spangles?  I remember Spangles!  And Refreshers, I loved the fizziness on my tongue!  :-)

LOL It was lovely and the candy shop was behind our primary school so you can imagine the smell in the school playground on the days when they made their candy! Yum yum! Sadly the owner retired and sold the shop on quite a few years ago but refused to sell her recipes so it was the end of an era. :-(

Shortlist so far includes:
1. Fizzy cola bottles/cherries
2. Small tubes of love hearts - not the just married ones though cos they double the price & the sweets are no different other than the wording & I'm not that much of a bridezilla yet!!
3. Rhubard & custard, also possibly Kola Kubes
4. Strawberry laces
5. Assorted star mix from Haribo - these are Rich's fave
6. White chocolate mice or fish n chips or buttons - not sure yet!
7. Coloured matched jelly belly beans
8. Swizzle lollies or drumstick lollies or chubba - can't decide!!!

I think maybe 10 different types of sweets should be plenty, I might buy a couple of bags of the mars fun size bars of chocolate too.  I've got about 6 jars at the moment, going to decorate & label them up to match the colour scheme too.  Also need to invest in some old school sweet shop paper bags, going to have some personalised stickers made to put on them & buy some tongs/scoops so people don't use their hands!!! Plus am going to make a sign for it, might invest in some bunting or attempt to make some myself! Getting very very excited now, thanks for all your fab suggestions!

Drumstick lollies are delish but not easy to eat,especially if you have fillings.I'd go for the swizzle lollies,the chuppas are gorgeous too but will leave teeth all coated and sticky.

the very things. i don't think you can get them anymore but i asked for suggestions for the guys at work (who all think its a brilliant idea btw) and they all declared vice versas.

I lived off tripe during my first pregnancy,oh,and Lord Toffingham lollies!Don't think you can get tripe flavoured sweets though :)
