I wish we had more champ shows in Scotland. How does one go about organsing one

You can't just organise a champ show.  It took YEARS for Boston to become a champ show 3 years ago, then there were 3/4 established premier shows who had sights set on being the next champ show.

the only show anyone can just set up is a companion show.  Even an open show takes alot of commitment and people.

Not sure why you need more champ shows though?  There's already 3 all breed champ shows in scotland aswell as the single group/duel group champ shows....

Having just helped with organising an Open Heelwork to Music Show I can't imagine how stressful a Championship show must be.

This is the third year I've helped until then I had no idea how much work went into a show before the daynever mind on the day. I have vast respect for club secretaries!!!

I'm on 4 commitee's and its so damm hard getting judges for limit/open show, without even thinking about Champ Shows!
There's somuch paper work, and where would the money come from??

4!!! One is plenty for me

Yup one is more then enough for me!  Then it only holds one show a year!

   I am not interested in personally organising one but what how much is involved

I wonder if it's easier to get judges for Ch Shows though?  People would be willing to travel miles to give tickets & they normally get travel allowance etc. unlike poor Open Shows!

I always wonder why Leicester Ch Show didn't get reinstated, does anyone know?  I know it lost it's status after that appalling year of mud, but I have to say if it was the conditions that year a lot of other Ch. Shows have been far worse since & still have their ch Show!

Crikey!  I've had my breed since 1987 and I've only been asked to judge twice, one I couldn't fulfill as I had pups on the go.   I didn't do too bad a job on my one sole appointment as my BOB went RBIS - but I've never been asked since!  

It is hard to get the right judges, when i asked on here i was overwhelmed with offers, i have used quite a few, and have past on a few to others,

a judge has taken out an advert in one of the dog papers I saw this week for champ show appointments...  

It's difficult to get judges for open shows in some respects but only because you dont get judges that are travelling too far and they might have done something within time and distance.

But then myself and my father have been sitting on some judging lists without a sniff of an appointment!!  Ahhwell :)

I noticed that.. and was a bit shocked too..

I must be quite difficult with shows who like to bring in breed specialists for each breed, sooner or later you run out of local(ish) judges.  finding someone on a 'C' list to travel a couple of hundred miles to do 3 classes  or 5 classes for Band E in becoming increasingly difficult.. so most open shows are now only asking B and A listers', and giving them the groups also.. which then leaves the C listers' with no judging appointments..

I went over to Ireland to judge Labs, but was also given 5 other breeds, 3 of which I am on the C list for.. so had 19 classes in total.. I noticed that for 3 previous shows, this club used Mainland judges..

It is, or has not been good ettiquette for judges to push themselves forward, in fact very much frowned upon.. but If we don't let club secretaries know.. Apart from the Breed clubs listings.. its pretty much a catch 22 situation..

I have 5 judging appts coming up.. but two of those are a fair old trek.. one is 5hours and the other is just over 7hours travelling, many judges just wont do this, or financially cannot do it any more..

Who is to blame.. the judges for setting themsleves a financial/time/distance limit.. or the clubs who are worried about bringing in C list judges because they are pretty much an unknown quantity..

oh.. I do go on a bit  :-O lol

You could be right there.  Cost me over £100.00 in hotel fees and petrol to judge at an open show in Guildford, I don't have the money to do that again I have to admit!
