I don't know whether anyone can help but I have an 8 month old male Bracco who I'm having real problems with in terms of food.
The breeder has been very helpful but still nothing appears to be working. Forgive the long message but, if I explain the situation in full maybe someone will have some suggestions??

At approximately 5 months old he has a severe case of gastroenteritis and he spend 2 days in the vet. The vet though most likley he had been poisoned from something he'd eaten in the garden which is fairly wooded and attracts lots of various animals (I have to point out we are very vigilant with plants and trees and there is nothing of that nature that is harmful to dogs in the garden). He had all sorts of tests and no underlying cause was identified)

Since then, he has been really, really fussy with food going 2 days with no food, then eating for 1 days, then no food again then eating, then turning his nose up at his food and wants something different. He was on Vitalin from a puppy but we have tried over the past few months JWB, Arden Grange, Chappie!!, Hills, Lilly's Kitchen, Chicken, Tuna, Coley, Rice.......and so the list goes on. Now - I have clearly created a monster in terms of food but, this was out of desperation to get him to eat as he is young and meant to be growing!

He has also developed a food allergy (since his illness) that has given him a bald patch on his head....this does appear to be getting better but, we dont know what he is allergic too yet.

Finally, over the last week, he has got a case of the runs, the vet has given him pro-kolin but this is his 3rd day on it and no real change yet. He is being fed boiled chicken and rice with a tiny amount of cottage cheese. He ate this 2 days ago, only ate a tiny amount yesterday, he will also only eat once a day - he just leaves breakfast every day. I am at a complete loss as I need to stabilize the upset tummy, he is skinny and sometimes he'll eat and sometimes he won't. He won't eat mince, eggs, lamb - putting a 'gravy' on his food doesn't work........ the only thing he would eat given the chance is the cat food.

In himself, he is still full of play, will run, chase the cats, steel my socks, has a shiney coat, bright eyes......

He is fully wormed, vaccinated etc. Does anyone have any ideas???

as I need to stabilize the upset tummy

When mine have upset stomachs they always get natural yoghurt, vet agrees and its always worked for them.

Would he eat in the company of anouther dog ? Sometimes that alone can make all the difference ......
How about raw diet ?

I would suggest raw tripe added to his food to entice him to eat, but I wouldn't feed that with an upset tum.

For upset tums I feed cooked white fish and boiled rice, the fish cooked in the microwave and the rice over-boiled. After a few days I'll gradually add the normal food back in.

If he has a food allergy of some sort as you mentioned, I would think the first step would be to get him allergy tested so you know what he is allergic to. He may be allergic to chicken, or rice, so by feeding those it won't settle his tum. Maybe you could try fish and potato instead.

I'm guessing all the foods you have tried contain rice, and possibly other grains. It may be worth trying one of the grain-free foods available or try him on a raw diet.

I feed natures menu in tins as I have a very fussy toy poodle there are 4 varieties 2 of which contain potato instead of rice, it is expensive but is a good quality food and doesn't contain preservatives. I have tried the pouches as well from natures menu but Mr fussy definitely prefers the tins.

I agree withthe idea of allergy testing  so that you dont inadvertantly include something in his diet. I would then look at raw feeding and see how he goes with that at least then you will know exactly what he is getting and find out what he likes.

My old gordon was a very fussy dates as well. I used to give him some cat food with his complete food in the morning and in the evening cooking off fresh meat for him! He wouldn't touch anything cold except tinned cat food so newer got him going with raw. I'm sure I'll be told otherwise, but my attitude to it was at least he was eating something! Once i got him in the habit of eating regularly, i cut down the amount of stuff i added but still had to give him something and always warm:)   Variety was also the key with different meats each evening! Spoiled or what:)
