Is there any thing I should consider after fire.
We had a fire last night....in the kitchen where the dogs sleep. They have a dog flap and were okay as they went out and were 'rescued' from the garden.
They seem fine, have fed and watered, probaly all that is obvoius is the dirty coats and feet.

Karen, that's awful, I'm so glad everyone got out safe and sound.  The only thing I'd be concerned about is smoke inhallation, but if they all seem fine I wouldn't be too worried.

I hope there's not too much damage.

How awfull for you. Hope there was not too much damage and thank goodness the dogs were OK.
I would just be aware of any coughing, no doubt they got out pretty quick but it is possible they had inhaled some smoke so keep an eye on chesty coughs or heavy breathing. I suppose for absolute safty it may pay to have the vet just listen to chests and make sure all is well but if they seem fine it may be overkill. I am sure you have looked at paws for any blisters, could they have stood on any hot bits?
I am sure they will be fine.

It is a mess, be glad when the insurance get here so we know how to proceed...
They seem okay, I've taken them out twice for road walks..(it was midnightish last night)
All a bit shell shocked....thank heavens for fir alarms and fire doors

so glad your all ok. bet the house is a mess though. can you still live their or will you have to move out  while the works done.

We can live in it, just...what a mess amazing how dirty everything is in all rooms.

How awful Karen - glad to hear that you, your family and the dogs are all okay. It must have been very frightening for you. So very pleased that your smoke alarm did it's job and alerted you all in time -I am still amazed that some households don't view smoke alarms as essential

Thanks all, the insurance folk have been and deemed the house 'uninhabitable'.
We however will prefer to 'camp in', and get on with things
Poor dogs are very dirty and need a bath, as does the whole place. What fun I am going to have shopping for new dog beds and leads and toys too.

We had a fire in the kitchen - way back in 1992 - got everyone out - smashed window in utility room to get dogs out ....fortunately no-one was seriously hurt - one kitten needed a whiff of oxygen from firemen and a check out from the vet next day - but otherwise all okay.   We found our insurance company was remarkably helpful and did everything they could to get us a new kitchen etc within as short a time as possible.

When we had the new kitchen/utility room installed - we made sure we put an extra outside door in the utility room to allow for escape/access if needed in the future.

Now let me tell you the amusing thing that has us all laughing.

When the fire alarm went off we were all asleep bar son in top room (loft conversion).

Husband woke got out to deal, I put my head under the pillow saying 'turn that off....'

Son came out of his room to find his dad standing on a chair poking at alarm.....trying to stop the noise.
Son then said...'dad there is smoke everywhere, its going off because the house on fire'.

We all came too and evacuated, with son also making the call to fire service................who on leaving fire station were confronted by a car accident that blocked there way.......

I thank God for having the dog flap, a fire alarm and a son who was awake.
