hi dont know if anyone can help, I believe my 2 year old sharpei Ruby has sharpei fever, our vet doesnt seem to know much and we are awaiting blood test results.Has anyone has
had this with their sharpei, what can you do to help,treat her the prognosis is not good, once they start having fevers how long can they survive ,we are all terribly upset and just want to help relieve her pain.

Contact your breeder - they should be able to steer you through... :)

I hope these give you a little more information - and might be worth printing for your vet if they are not sure about it. There are new treatments being developed for diseases all the time - there may well be somewhere like a vet college or the AHT that specialises in it/ is investigating it, and will have more information on current treatment.

I don't know the credentials of the writer of this website - but they suggest that there is currently no definitive blood test and a DNA test hasn't been developed so far. I would ask your vet to contact one of the vet colleges - whichever is local to you - to discuss it with them and see what else they can find out for you.

And as Westcoast said, discuss it with your girl's breeder - apart from anything else they need to know, since it appears to have a hereditary basis, and if they have been involved in the breed for a while, they should have some experience of it. I think there are actually some Sharpei breeders on here that might be able to help.
