Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Early signs of pregnancy?
- By dogmad1234 Date 07.06.09 20:19 UTC
My bitch was mated earlier this week. I know it is WAY to early for there to be any signs of her being pregnant yet, but just wondered what the really early signs might be? She already seems to be much hungrier than normal although I am not feeding her any more yet and won't for ages. This is my first litter and I am really excited about  it.
Thanks,
Sarah

Our dog got really tired and looked depressed almost from day one,she was so sad to look at and stuck by my side all the time, she also started steeling food at any chance, so maybe been hungry is a good sign but i think they can also give off signs if its a phantom so not much help,im sure someone else will be along to answere better.good luck xx

hi...her bits will stay swollen ...for me thats the 1st sign ....around day21  ...she may go off her food (morning sickness just like us )....then a clear none smelling disscharge will be seen ....then by now you could take her for a scan ...hope that helps !!xx

By day 21 I find that the nipples take on a different hue, even if there is no difference in actual size.

Varies between bitches. One of mine started attacking my other bitches from the day she was mated and could not be anywhere near them again until her pups were about 6 weeks old, by which time she was back to normal again. Often you see them go off their food and feel sick after about 2-3 weeks.

Thanks very much for all the things to look out for. She does tend to have phantoms after her season anyway but i have not taken much notice if her body  changes while she has one so don't know if I will see a difference when she is pregnant. . I will get her scanned later on, and until then I suppose I will just have to be patient. By the way does anyone know a good scanner near North Staffs/South Cheshire?
