Hi all, Miley is in season AGAIN after just 3 months is this normal for Pugs? Her last season started the very beginning of March and lasted 4 weeks. She is in her 3rd day of this season!..................... :)

My Millie(toy Poodle) has always had 3 seasons a year,May,September and December. They all last for 4 weeks. However this year she decided to have an extra one in February so I decided enough was enough and have now had her speyed.

Pippa had a season in march and is just coming into season again, she is 2 in november, this will be her 4th season! We are hoping to breed her next year, but is she going to come into season every 3 or 4 months now?

hi Im sure its fine but keep an eye on her, when I thought my pug had come back into season after 3 months she actually had pyometra and needed an emergency spay.

Another reason why I had Millie speyed was because I was worried that she would get a pyo but the vet said she was "nice and clean".I agree that you should keep your eye on her though just in case.

Thanks all, will keep an eye on her.
So with those who had Py, did the bleeding happen the same as a season, as Miley's changes from red to very pale almost clear then back to dark again before she finishes?

Hi

if you are worried about her possibly having pyo, probably best to invest in a thermometer and some lube and take her temperature.  If its higher than normal you should take her to the vet.  From what I know, dogs are a bit like humans, in that their cycle length can be quite variable from bitch to bitch

Thanks Angel66, I am not worried really. I have been keeping a close eye on her and she is not unwell at all. She is eating normally and drinking normally and pooing normally and has normal enrgy so i will still watch her but i am 99 percent sure it is her season. I just hope it's not gonna turn out to be her normal cycle! Every 3 months is a bit much! :)

Bitches don't always have an elevated temperature when they have a pyo. They can become very ill just from the toxins produced. They don't always get a discharge either -  they can get a closed pyo, where the muck builds up inside but the cervix is closed so it doesn't come out. With a pyo you need to watch for your girl being off colour, quiet, not wanting to eat much, sickness, drinking a lot, any discharge being smelly or green (it can be a dark bloody type discharge too). If she is fine in herself and showing no signs of ill health or anything out of the ordinary then just keep a close eye, if in any doubt, take her to the vet and get her checked. :-) HTH.

there must be something in the air! :) as my five year old had a season in march and has now started another season! I have had a girl with pyometra and at present (touch wood ) it seems to be just another season, but i will keep a close eye on her :)

Has she been with another bitch in season ? sometimes this can bring them in. One of my girls has one a year.

I would suggest you do an ecogram with this dog...it is very likely she has cystic ovaries....it would also quell your fears re pyometriosis at the same time.

Actually, yes she has. 2 other bitches who have been in season. I knew this can happen with humans when women spend a lot of time together, their cycles start to match, didn't think it might happen in dogs!
She is definately in season. Thanks for all the replies. x
