Hey guys :)

Hope you are all well!

From experience when do you normally start seeing puppy movement?

Mya is expecting a large litter of around 10 and will be due 22nd so thinking I might be able to see movement anytime now.

What you think?
- By JeanSW Date 03.06.09 21:39 UTC
I often don't actually see movement on mine until the last week.

argh lol i am dying to see them move about....i remember seeing them move for the first time last litter she has and it was amazing!

guess i'll just have to be patient

:D

I often find that when they are relaxed and laid down, while stroking the belly, I feel a little flutter.  But again, I'm sure they wait until they are almost ready to give birth before they let me have the privilege to feel a pup move!

well not too long to wait now just hope everything goes smoothly

i can always see little movements from week 7, even when my girl had just 2 puppies (large breed)

When they are laid out on their side relaxed is the best chance to see them, i love that bit :)

Well mines are medium in size so and Archie of Falkirk reckons easily 10 pups maybe 11 so I'm thinking must start to see movement soon.

It most definetly is exciting lol can't wait

To be honest, when my girl had 9 pups last year (small gundog breed) I hardly felt any movement at all, I guess because they were so tightly packed in there....lol.  When I've had smaller litters I've felt more movement, usually around 42 days.

I've never seen movement but I did feel it with our last litter which was great! :-D  Felt it in the last week.

Sophies started visible kicks about 2 weeks before they were born.  We thought she was full of puppies, but only had 4 lol! (they all weighed 375g each though) and sophie is only a 13kg ESS :-)

haha awe bless her!

Well I havent weighed Mya now but post-pups her weight was 20.5-21.5kg now i reckon she is easily 24-25kg lol

Hello....I am really wanting my bitch to be pregnant. It is 7 week 4 days or 7 week 1 day from her 2nd matings. She is longer in the body than my other girl and certainly has not got a pot belly like she had  few years ago. However tonight...while laid on her back on the sofa I am sure I felt fluttering on one side. My children said it would be wind and they could be right.
She has some swelling under her nipples but they have not changed much since the 2nd or 3rd week. She is very strong and athletic and although slower sill runs around like a loony. Her rib change looks larger somehow...what do people think??? Am I wishing this to happen? (I hope not I have taken 2 weeks off work !) can they still hide puppies at 7 + weeks? She could be just gettig bigger because of the increase in puppy food this last 10 day !
Could she have one tucked away and i would not know??

Would love to hear your advice.
Thanks

well i've always noticed the rib cage changing shape before they start showing elsewhere....but i've not got a huge amount of experience :S
- By mad4dogs [gb] Date 04.06.09 21:30 UTC
Can you remember what week that was? She is definitely larger in the ribs.
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 04.06.09 21:53 UTC
5th or 6th...medium breed and both large litters.

its not uncommon for bitches hardly to show as far as im aware.

can.t you get her to the vets for a scan?

most definitely yes.  I have had them come down from under the ribcage very late.  It's why I swear they're determined to keep me wondering.

In my experience, not uncommon at all.  I always try to keep an eye on the ribcage before anything else.  It's usually my first clue.

My Roo just had 10 pups. Shes large breed and it was about 10 days before that we first felt/saw any moving.
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 06.06.09 07:52 UTC
Ah thats awesome! I'm hoping the 10 we think are due are all fit and healthy and no compications.

I'm just about to start building the new whelping box actually as she has already been scratching around and hiding in corners lol

CANNOT wait :D lol
- By Astarte Date 06.06.09 18:39 UTC
try watching her and not her belly. is she starting awake at all? or shifting about a lot? our girl would suddenly wake up and stare at her belly when they started shimmying about lol.
- By kellystewart198 [gb] Date 06.06.09 23:37 UTC
Cant say i've noticed this so far but will defin keep my eyes peeled!

whelping pen is up and she is fast asleep in it lol
- By angel66 [gb] Date 08.06.09 20:33 UTC
From my experience, movement is much more noticable in slimmer dogs than dogs that are fat.  You should be able to notice/feel movement in the last week or two.
