I have no experience of talking on camera either but its not difficult to avoid a direct question if you want to. I'm not criticising him for what he did, he was protecting his sister at the end of the day.

> What evidence have you got to even begin to form that opinion???

The footage of her on TV over the last few weeks and clearly the way she hasnt handled it.

> Do you consider that all people who have led sheltered lives and have little life experience are all 'not the full shilling'

No i dont, i didnt see that. I wasnt aware she had let a sheltered life (?) I'm baseing my opinion on what i have seen - see above comment.

> And just because they are not part of the 'modern world' doesn't make them 'not the full shilling either'.  :-(

I've said nothing about her not being part of the modern world so i'm not sure what you are getting at??!!

>I stand corrected if her brother didnt say that, but he didnt directly answer the question, some clever avoidance me thinks.
>From the way she has behaved im not sure SUBo is the full shilling though

 You would have been able to reply better then ?

I saw & heard what he said & no way did he try to avoid the questions.

I know the media has turned on her(all the better to sell papers)& TBH it's not the first time it's happened is it.

What's with the insulting nickname ? SUBo ???? she has a name why not use it ? Susan Boyle !

I've been involved with many people with learning disabilities & this lady is certainly doesn't have any noticable problems & deserves to be treated way better by both the media & the public.

Still consider her voice to be more than OK & I'm not the most enthusiastic "popular music"person(Meatloaf being my fav singer)

PS have now seen the"winning"act & TBH I've seen better & more original dancing groups locally, seen one you've seen them all !

Its not insulting :-( Just short for her name, Like J Lo :-)  I'm surprised you havent heard her called it already

> I've been involved with many people with learning disabilities & this lady is certainly doesn't have any noticable problems

Me too, learning difficulties dont have to be noticeable or obvious.

Frightening, quite frightening. :(

Is there an actual cd out of her singing her song?

J Lo choses to be called J Lo I understand & this is what her management encourages(more catchy than her full name I understand)

However calling someone SUBo as in subnormal ! that isn't insulting then ?

The mind boggles at what you would call someone with learning disabilities to their face :-(

This ladies name is Susan & not whatever the media have nicknamed her, it is most impolite & IMHO downright rude to mock people who are not as wordly as yourself.

No, you're misreading it. It's SuBo, pronounced Sue-Bo - short for Susan Boyle. Nothing rude about that at all.

Thank you Jeangenie.
Really wasnt insulting her at all :-(  And bringing up learning difficulties to try to reiterate that i called her that in malice is below the belt, no need to pull out that card.

I'm not sure J Lo did choose to be called that but it is aclever gimick to stick in the publics head more hence more sales.

What would i call someone with learning difficulties to their face?? Nothing - is the environment i work in all day every day, so before you try that, think of the saying those in glass houses........

Why is it, do you think, that we in the UK delight in finding all the quirks and foibles of people who are winners and knocking and kicking at their reputation/their looks/their achievements?

And Susan Boyle has proved herself to be a winner - she did get through auditions and through to the finals of this show (which incidentally I don't watch!!!).   For whatever reasons she got that far - which is a greater achievement than most of us who post on here (and if I have made a grand assumption here, and we do have winners of this sort of thing, then I humbly apologise :) ) .

She has been taken to the hearts of people in the USA - as I understand it, she has not yet signed a record contract - but there are several companies who wish to sign her up.  She does not need to make personal appearances unless she wishes to - her records will still sell on the basis of the Youtube production.

But why oh why do we have to be so nasty and snidey about winners - comments about the young girl having tantrums - comments about the group who won being no better than local groups - they are somebody's local group! It is one of the things I dislike about the British - we seem to hate winners/success stories - there are always people who take great delight in slagging them off.

A good point Loki's Mum.

I for one am not against her success, i think she did well as did Julian Smith who came 3rd. I was glad to see Diversity win and think they were the best act.
The point i raised was one of her being able to cope with the fame and i personally dont think she is cut out for it. Neither do i think Julian would have, so again i think Diversity were the best act - they seem very level headed and coped well with the pressures. Good luck to them

She'll be finer if she's helped to settle down again and protected from the onslaught of attention. It can't be fine to be overwhelmed and exhausted.

Plus they all have each other to talk to if things get on top of them.

Sorry I'm not mistaken the nickname is from the Sun Newspaper & it is meant to be derogatory

I've got no interest in shows like this I watched last year, but only for Gin the dog(whose owner/handler I had the pleasure of meeting on Sunday at our Obedience Show-where she was competing with her puppy Ice) Not watched anything except Youtube clips & as I live in an area where modern/street dancing groups prolificate they were on a level with the groups that are in this area)

It might well be from the Sun, but it's still clearly spelled SuBo, being the first two letters of her first and last names, and not how you suggest. Even the Sun 'journalists' (for want of a better term) know the rules of spelling and how to pronounce words! If they intended it to suggest 'sub' it would have a double 'b' to shorten the 'u' sound, not a single 'b' which makes it a long vowel.

It's no more derogatory than someone whose name is Teresa Penfold being called TePe.
