hi my dog does not have dysplasia but when a dog does the muscles in the rear legs kick in and tighten my bitch has tightening of these muscles and no dysplasia vets don't know why weve had two other vet opinions and they do not know either.Tuesday is d-day they want to cut all the muscles in her legs. Last month after first set of x rays vet said that twenty years ago they were quite barbaric and cut the muscles now they gonna do it to my girl anyone heard of these symptoms or experienced similar i'm at wits end don't want the surgery done.

Whats her hip score?

Hip score was cancelled as she was limping badly hips are fine x-rays showed no sign of displasia

If x-rays had been done why not send them off for scoring?

That comment alone makes me think she does have hip dypslasia, why else would you not send an x-ray off unless they were going to be absolutely rubbish?? I would be querying the vets decision here myself.

Never gave it a thought more concerned about her losing use of legs which is happening her hips, spine and lower legs were x-rayed and they found no abnormalities vet was convinced it was HD too until he done x-rays. I'm not looking for scorn for cancelling hip score i'm looking for perhaps an answer to this as vets don't always know everything x-rays were sent to Bristol and then somewhere else not quite sure where. But yeh excellent idea about sending them in to BVA will vet still have them or will they still be where they got sent to.Vets answer at mo is steroids.

If the xrays showed noting wrong in hips/spine etc...
Why not take her to see Chiropractor as sometimes these people trained to feel with their hands can find things that do not show in xrays.
The operations sounds like very big thing to do if they do not actually see nothing wrong or cause of this.
What kind of problems is this operation used to correct and used on(dogs with bad hips?).

I would get X-rays off to BVA for scoring. My bitch doesn't have HD but does have a shallow hip socket and score of 75! Earlier this year she had problems with her hips but she's 7 and half now and was scored just beore 2. since the score's came back she has been on glucosomine which I swear has helped and now she's on that aswell as Ester-C after her 3 week course of rimedal and she was shown at crufts and will be going to SC next week!
If you get the hips scored you will know if they are good or bad, and then have an answer for your vet.

The op is, or used to be performed on dogs with HD it helps relieve pressure they cut muscles leaving inch gap then it grows back together i don't fancy it at all. The first set of x-rays were hips and spine last weeks were the lower part of her legs to see if something was wrong in her feet the muscles were rigid there too.The muscle on upper part of leg is called peecneel probably not spelled that way.Physio was attending when both lots of x-rays were done, she already gets glucosamine and chondroitin i normally feed hills i even changed her diet incase she was getting too much protein, i did put chicken in with the hills.Dogs eat better than i do.

I dont know about the condition sorry, but if it was my dog i would be kicking up a stink to get a referral to the best animal hospital there is. Your vet shouldn't have a problem with this if they dont know what to do. And if your insured it wont be an issue.

long time since been on site, new computer at last i am infact replying to myself to let you all know about the previous post that i put on last year did eventually get a diagnosis myopathy not HD not that its any better than HD severe tightening of muscles to the point of just the tendon with no soft tissue. I did have op done on left leg it worked for a couple of months and went back to the way it was.Waste of money but you have to try so now i am asking who has experienced myopathy with their dogs and what have you done to help them is there a miracle cure "i wish"
