Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Moving on to raw with 5 year old Westie
- By RuthLC [gb] Date 27.05.09 15:41 UTC
Hi All,
I'm new and have recently rescued a 5 year old Westie. I have raw fed before but Murph was a big lab and I had no worries about bones etc. I've decided to use the prize choice/natures menu frozen food with added bits but wondered if anyone had any ecperience of feeding westies raw.

Many thanks

Is that you Ruth? :-D You were/are in France?

Yep - it's me!! We were in France, came back after a year and we are now in Battle. I developed heart problems/angina and p[oor Murph couldn't get his two hour a day walks. He became very depressed and we decided to rehome him with someone who could give him his walks. He was such an active lab, you may remember. I still miss him so much and dream about him a lot even after four years!! Jessie is a little Westie and doesn't pull me like Murph tended to. He's a very happy dog now, living in Kent but we aren't allowed to see him:(

i feed my border terriers barf so i cant see why it would be a problem for your westie

What sort of amounts do you feed your borders?

really it depends on the dog and not the breed but i give mine 2-3 raw chicken wings depending on size of chicken wing or 1/2 lb of raw green tripe or a few meaty ribs again depending on size of ribs or 1 whole chicken leg, ive got some raw chicken carcasses in the freezer so when ive tried them ill let you know but if your dog starts looking abit thin then feed he/she a bit more and if he/she looks fat then cut the food down, you really dont need to feed alot when on a barf diet as all of it gets used. :)

hi, just to let you know i got around to trying the chicken carcasses and they were great, they still had the necks on and a good amount of meat on the carcass, will deffinately get some more next time
