Are too many carrots harmful to puppies, my 12 week old keeps stealing them from the veg rack. I had been giving him cold ones from the fridge to help him teething and wondered how many he should have a day. I know horses can have too many but wondered whether it's the same for dogs.

If nothing else he is filling himself up with something than lacks the balance he needs very importantly just now so I would put a stop to the stealing and remove temptation.  Theft is not a good habit for a dog to get into anyway :-)

i regularly give my bichons the odd carrot- they certainly kepp the dogs quiet for a bit!- nothing harmful in carrots as long as they aren't eating them by the kilo!! they certainly are a better snack to some alternatives!!

Hi,
I would love to feed Floyd (colitis sufferer!) with raw carrots, does anyone know if this would aggravate his condition?
Thanks for any help.

Carrots are brilliant :)
They are a natural wormer (not to be used instead of regular treatment)
They are one of natures little helpers

Be aware that anything in excess can be harmful.
Carrots contain Beta Carotene
Lots of them will impact on coat colour (hence why many breeds are fed Olewa Carrots)
Huge amounts can be toxic to the liver
They are also very high in sugar
Also I doubt very much if you have a dog with worms that carrots alone will rid them of this parasite!

So feed carrots by all means, but as in all things, in moderation.

One or two a day.

They also act as a very good teeth cleaner.

Aah but I didn't see the bit in the book that said flatcoats are terrible thieves until after I got my 2nd one and by that time it was too late I was hooked;-). I'm running out of cupboard space (with child locks) or counter space high enough to thwart a flattie. Seriously carrots are no longer on the all day all you can eat buffet but are frozen(he hasn't worked out how to get in there yet) and given out to help his poor little gums. They appear to be almost undigested judging by the poos!
