I think i recall her advertising in one of the dog papers in the last few months. I don't have any papers around to check for you, lets hope some others may be able to check or know of the lady in HH.

so why cant you pay vet prices like everyone else? i think its only about £25!
- By tooolz Date 25.05.09 06:15 UTC
I found that the lady in HH charges more than a local vet I have used for scanning.
Prices do vary though and my own vet charges 3 times the price.

I think she charges about £30 if you go to her, but if she travels to you it is considerably more. I will try to find her number (although I never used her in the end) she was a bit fussy about what breed of dog she would scan ???

I should go to your vets then!! :-O

Mine used to charge £51, however last year the price went up to £61. And tbh, the last scan I had at the vets wasnt with my usual vet. I ended up with an inexperienced vet who took forever to find pups that my usual vet would have found in seconds.

I used a horse/dog scan lady last time (based in Liss, Hants but she does travel). She was very good, obviously very experienced and well practised due to doing it day-in-day-out. I'd sooner use her again :-D

She charged £40.

Plus my bitch wasnt stressed and panting like mad for being in a vets. Everything was very calm, she though she was on the table to be groomed and it all went very quickly and smoothly.

Id reccomend a scanner person over the vets any day! :-D

you are very lucky if your vet is £25, my vet is £48 plus vat and i think that is well over priced and no i am not going to pay that
- By jilldane [gb] Date 25.05.09 12:26 UTC
yes i remember she use to put a advert in the friday ad but i cant find it in any new ones
- By jilldane [gb] Date 25.05.09 12:27 UTC
when i used her a few years ago i think she charged £15 then but as i say that was 2 or 3 years ago
- By jilldane [gb] Date 25.05.09 12:30 UTC
thank you so much if you can find her number, i would still rather pay £30 to a scanner then to a vets

Ours doesn't count them now either. I think they get it wrong so often that they just don't take the risk any more! Thing is, there can be puppies hiding up under the rib cage where you can't see them on the scanner. It's sometimes more difficult to tell on a maiden bitch where everything is a bit tighter. Worst wrong count we had was 5 pups visible on the scan. She had 11!

Best just use it as a tool to diagnose whether or not she is in whelp. It only really matters if it's a singleton. But of course you can always have another scan a week or so before her due date when everything has dropped down more. The later the scan the more likely it is to be accurate.

Good luck with your litter.

I don't think any vet will guarantee quantity, just confirm that the bitch either is or isn't in whelp.  Because the dopler reflects light, sometimes you see one pup twice, or like others have said pups can be hiding under the rib cage.

>Because the dopler reflects light

Eh?

They don't shine lights through the abdomen! They send soundwaves, which bounce back at different levels according to the density of the obstruction, and are shown as light and dark on the monitor.

Sorry ultra sound, not light......I know what I mean.....lol.   I have a scanner and you can sometimes see double where there really is only one pup.
