I have just read a post wher the owner of a new pup commented on how the "breeder " of her pup had not registered them and that she could do it herself!!!!!! or people tell me that the breeder is going to send on the papers. quess what ? they never get them  !!!!

I cant count how many people have said that to me and I think it is awfull !!

When I got my girl I got handed everything in my puppy pack and all I had to do was send away and register her in my own name which is how it should be !!!

I think then that if anyone is going to buy a pup theyy should ask the question " is it KC reg and will I recieve all documentation when I collect my pup ?" otherwise I think I would think twice about buying a pup from the breeder .

I know that sometimes it can take time to register pups but if breeders are organised and are doing things right this should not be a problem. Or am I wrong ?

What do you think ??

if you do it online it is done almost instantly, I registered my litter using this method and the paperwork was back within 5 days and names accepted within a couple of hours!! very quick. I have never done paper registering so don't know how long it normally takes.

Exactly so there should be no reason why a so called reg pedigree pup cannot be sold with the relevant documents given with them the day they are collected.

I sent away to change details on my girls ownership form as I had got married and had changed address  I got it back within 2 weeks !

I have to say that 'sometimes' there are genuine reasons for late registration, I know colour being one of them.  With cockers sometimes it's hard to tell if the pups will be ***&white or roan, so the later your register the more chance you have of getting the colours right, also one year I had two litters 4 weeks apart and through sheer exhaustion registered BOTH litters to the same mum............the KC accepted it and sent out all the documents, so by the time I had all the papers returned and reprinted they weren't ready in time for the pups leaving.

Must admit though, since doing them online they do come through a lot quicker.

In some cases yes, you are wrong, but on the whole.. I completely agree, papers should be ready to go with pups...

My puppies went to their new homes nearly 2 weeks ago.. they still don't have their papers.. in fact neither do I yet.. although they should arrive today...

My stud lives in Russia, so we cannot do them online.. and I took forever, thinking for names, and could come up with nothing really good.. so I asked my puppy owners to help choose names... I only sent my litter registration application away last week.. They are registered now.. and I got all my names bar one.. which the KC phoned me about.. and papers are on their way to me.. but, it will be another 3 days or so, by the time puppy owners get them.. so in effect, they will have had their pups nearly a month before getting the papers..

So, its not always a case of you MUST get paper with pups...

I know this is a bit off the subject but.. if you register a litter and wanted to put a restriction on only one of the pups can it be done (im sure it can), and does it cost more money to place the restrictions?

you can put restrictions on any of your own jitters registration, they dont all have to be the same in one litter.  When i sold my first litter the kc reg was all new to me and there was a delay in papers, i gave my buyers the option of waiting to collect their puppy until papers had arrived or for me to give them a signed letter stating i would post the kc papers to them as soon as they arrived, well all puppy owners opted for me to post them! And within a couple of days all papers was sent out to their owners. But i am am honest person and i think i would possibly think twice if buying a puppy if papers was not ready, unless i knew the breeder of course

Yes you  can restrict all of the pups, or just some of them.. just tick the box beside the pup you require restrictions against.. No.. it costs nothing..

If you have already registered the litter, but not gone to new owners, while pups are still in your name, you can write to KC requesting restrictions placed or lifted.. again, no fee..

Once a pup has been transferred to new owner, you can lift restrictions, but no longer have the right to place them.. the new owner however, does have the ability to place restrictions..

I registerd my litter with KC when they were 2.5 wks old, they are now 5wks and I have all pedigrees and change of ownership forms back. At least they will go will all paperwork. This is my first litter and I wasnt really sure when to register them, so I did it early just to be on the safe side.

I always register the littter when I am reasonably sure that all are going to make it.

Same as Brainless, I wouldn't do it at 2.5 weeks!!  But that's just me, not wanting to tempt fate!

I usually do it at 5-6 weeks, and pups go at 8 weeks.  Even though I've done the last 2 online, I always did it by post previously, and paperwork was always back within 2 weeks.

I register mine when I'm certain what colour they're going to be - so at about 10 - 14 days. I need the registrations back by 5 or 6 weeks when they're BAER tested.

In my breed you would usually know if something was amiss before two weeks, so I usually do them before that.

My last litter were born at Christmas and I registered them on-line on New Years day, and judging by the reg numbers they were probably one of the first pups registered in the new year.

So it may depend on breed (colour survivability etc) as well as how organised/eager the breeder is.

I still remember waiting 7 weeks for registration papers before the new computer so tend to want the application in ASAP.
