hello everyone....I am waiting patiently for my lovely girl to show first signs of pregnancy. She should be 5 weeks 5 days or 5 weeks 3 days depending when she caught. She is really holding onto her figure and I have spent the last few days watching for any real sign. ( we have had the morning sickness and slight discharge at 35 days but nothing much else). I have phone the vets and it is £55 for a first scan and £35 for the second.....(not expecting that price!)
A friend told me today that she has heard that human pregnancy tests work on dogs? I have never heard that before? Could it be true???. I have seen them in the 'pound' type shops for a very reasonable price.
Does anyone know ???
Does anyone know of a sheep scanner in North Yorkshire/ Leeds area.
Thanks

I've heard they don't work, different hormones in a dog to a human.
>I have never heard that before? Could it be true???
No, it isn't true. Bitches secrete the same hormones after a season whether or not they're pregnant.

Human pregnancy tests do not work.
There is a blood test for canines and felines which tests for the hormone Relaxin.Relaxin is only present in pregnant bitches and queens

This one's in Sheffield so might be a bit too far away
http://www.animalscan.co.uk/index.phpThis company do the proper canine pregnancy tests
http://www.cslabs.co.uk/tests.htm The cost of the test is around £27.00 but then you've got the cost of getting the blood taken and posting to them. I haven't a clue whether or not the human tests work on dogs.

my sophie had a scan and it was £28, and the second one was FREE
we had our girl scanned at 4 weeks and it cost us 27.50, the vet saw 2 blobs, he told us to come back at 5 wks and saw 4 blobs!!! The 2nd san was free...but thats just at our vets.
Thank you everyone....I did not think it could be true...I would have heard something before now. However i did wonder if there was a something similar in both urine samples....both been mammals and all !
I will keep searching for a sheep scanner or a vet that has not got a 'sports car, yacht and 3rd home ' to pay for at my expense.
Thanks again....fingers crossed
