Hi all - I am a newbie in need of your wisdom.

I wormed my pregnant bitch from day 42 with panacur 10% - pups are now 2 weeks old and I am in a dither.  THose that have used this method, 1)when did you start worming the pups and 2) do you worm mum at the same time.

I'm thinking 3 weeks then say 6 weeks (as consious of upsetting tender bellies) but not sure what to do with mum.  I have rung Intervet who said worming mum should be fine as her wormer will not be passed to the pups? I have had differing opinions from all sides and am panicking I'll do the wrong thing.

Thanks in advance.

I wormed pups and mum at 2 weeks, 5 weeks and 8 weeks. Always worm mum at the same time because she'll be reinfecting herself as she clears up after the pups, and then in turn reinfecting them through her milk.

I worm exactly the same as Jeangenie.  And I always use Panacur 10% from day 42.  When I worm pups at 14 days - the 3 day course, Mum is only wormed for one day  but not at the same dosage used during her pregnancy.  She is given the normal adult dose on the first day that I worm pups.  I have followed this procedure for a long time, with excellent results.

This topic crops up often, and yes you will get differing opinions, based on each breeders experience.  If you have had no problems with Panacur throughout pregnancy, I would keep to the regime they recommend.  Look at it this way - pups are used to it already.  :-)

Many thanks for your replys.  Wormed pups yesterday at 2 1/2 weeks and also mum, but with Milbermax on vets instructions.  They said that this would be fine and easier to give than the Panacur 10% as 13ml is alot to give.  Milbermax is what mum usually has.  Mum is o.k and pups seem to be o.k since 2nd dose today.  THey are a little runnier I guess so hoping that 3rd dose tomorrow wont aggrivate things.
