I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO MATE MY BITCH NOW FOR 2 DAYS WITH A DOG. SHE HAS WILLINGLY STOOD FOR HIM TO NO AVAIL. NO TIE OR NO SLIP MATING. THE DOG WAS A NOVICE AND OBVIOUSLY DIDNT REALLY KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING PROPERLY. ANYWAY I HAD ANOTHER STUD ON STANDBY WHO I HAVE JUST INTRODUCED MY BITCH TO. SHE IS SHOWING A LOT OF AGGRESSION TOWRDS HIM AND GROWLING AT HIM.
I DID NOT REALLY WANT TO MUZZLE HER AS IF SHES NOT WILLING TO MATE WITH HIM I AM NOT GOING TO FORCE IT UPON HER.

THE DOG I HAVE GONE TO ON STANDBY IS THE 1ST DOGS BROTHER.

DO YOU THINK SHE IS JUST FRUSTRATED AND SICK OF TRYING TO BE MATED NOW?
SHE IS IN DAY 15 OF SEASON AND THE LAST 2 LITTERS SHE HAS MATED ON THESE DAYS.

ANY COMMENTS WOULD BE APPREICIATED.

my bitch had to be held firmly- muzzled in fact with both litters. she was a great mum but some bitches just dont like being mated, particularly if they are a bit dominant so i would muzzle and hold her firmly, no chance of anyone getting hurt then

I would never agree to forcing a bitch whether my own or one brought to use my stud.

Either the days are wrong and she is not ready to be mated or her temperament is wrong and she shouldn't be bred from anyway.  Whichever, to use force is IMO completely unacceptable and certainly not in the best interests of the bitch.

Some bitches just don't like some dogs and there's nothign you can do.  I doubt she is fustrated but maybe has gone past the time for this season?

If only more people took this into account. Bitches have preferences, and to force them to submit to mating against their will (maiden bitches are often willing but nervous, and a little reassurance will overcome the initial difficulty) is tantamount to r*pe.

Well Bitches in the wild choose the dog they will mate with :)  But I will say time and time again I'm all for nature (within reason)  surely muzzling and holding a bitch will cause stress?  Although I'm sure not long lasting, it could change their attitude/temprement in future?  But I've never been in that situation to really be able to comment and see.

I agree completely. Steadying the nerves is one thing - force is another.

I think anything other than calmly holding and reassuring a maiden bitch that has been established by tests to be at her optimum time for mating is going down the route of force.  If muzzles are needed then the bitch is showing strong objections to the procedure and IMO that's Mother Nature's way of saying STOP!

The measures taken by some breeders or steps necessary for some breeds to mate at all are what give good breeders with suitable breeding stock a bad name - we all get tarred with the same brush :(

Both the OP and tina s have mentioned their bitches are not maidens!

I would think she is not ready.  Just because she was ready on those days last time does not follow that the same is true this time.

My last litter the bitch was mated days 18 to 20, when I would have expected around day 15.
