i dont know alot about showing but when i get my staffie i want to show him. when they are in the ring does the judge check the dogs tail that it doesnt turn up? cause the wee pup that im getting its mums tail sits up a bit and im just a bit worried that when the pup is older its tail will also sit up like this. please help

Tell the breeder that you want to show and they will let you know if the pup you like is suitable.

hi thanks for that. i have actually told the breeder that we will be showing the pup that we take he said for us to take the pick of the litter which he STILL has, but to me the other one is better looking the pick of the litter has a scratch down its face and it has gone a white colour. but the mums tail is turned up a good bit but i had put it down to just having the pups but i hope the pup i want doesnt go like its mum :-(

Hi Buster

The tail of a Staffie should lie out from the body and have a slight bend (turn up) as the Breed Standard says it should be like a pump action .. If this makes any sense :)

A lot of Staffies carry their tails slightly up which will look like the tail is turned up !!

As Jackie has said your Breeder will be the best one to advise.

it would depend how much the breeder knows or has done themselves how much help they can give-theyd have to know first or they wouldnt have a clue which to pick out, -is thius a kennel that has produced a few show winners????

To true Dizzy, I had assumed that Buster had gone to a show breeder as they want to show, but perhaps not.

dizzy,
think buster is fliting from post to post, has not given anybody any answers to last thread they posted about her pup even being registered, went to a open show not long ago and two new people to the breed entered the ring, they had not a clue, had done no training with the dogs, the dog nearly collapsed with fright when put on the table, would not let the judge go over it, i felt sorry for the poor dogs and those people, the poor dogs were only pet quality, no known affix or breeding in them, i am new to showing but made sure i did my home work and made sure i had a reasonably good dog to start with from someone who has bred and shown for many years and has helped me a lot, regards tina

thanks for all the info i am actually going to give that pup a miss. i was talking to one of my friends last nite and he is into showing in a big way his name is terry wood he owns LL COOL J. he was saying that someone from the club is breeding at the moment and he will get me one of his pups. so its just a matter of waiting, but i dont mind to get a good dog.

It is best to have the back up provided by a knowledgeable breeder.

We all have to start somewhere, but when breeding my first litters I relied (and still do in some matters) on the breeder of my bitch, and the owner of her sire, and other experts in my breed!

buster-its not a case of putting your name down cos someones breeding a litter-get yourself to a few shows, see what type-[lines] you admire, theres different types in all breeds-all correct withing the standard, -the person who mr woods might put you in touch with may not have the look you like-what is mr woods affix-what is the affix of his friend???
