Now these are supposed to be indestructible aren't they?  My WHV really works at his and has nibbled bits off the large hole end.

Once he's finished whatever was inside I have to take it away pronto.  It's such a shame as he loves to play with it as well as eat it  (especially loves to shove it under the sofa!).

Is eating it normal?  Do you suppose I have a faulty one - Kong that is - I'm fairly sure boyo isn't completely defective...

Do you have any suggestions for making it last longer?  I do freeze the contents sometimes but that seems to make him chew more and anything else he gets out in minutes.

Thanks

how about one of those things they give to lions etc instead? is it called a boomer ball? i've found our dog pyramid pretty hardy to.

Not sure but my boy has yet to destroy his black kong but very quickly ate away at the pyramid..

My GR and terrier will also chew bits off the black Kong. We actually have two kongs - one is nibbled and chewed and is the obvious favourite, the other is in pristine condition and not highly prized at all :-)

I wouldn't say "normal" :) but it's not unusual for them to chew bits off the ends.

The dogs are only interested in them when they're stuffed with food and I throw them out when the big hole gets bigger. I don't worry too much, bits that get ripped off are so small they come out in poo the next day.

The black one does hold out a bit longer than the red with my kong destroyer.

OK thanks all for advice.

I'll get a couple more today and make sure I alternate them to see if that reduces his interest in eating this one.  Karen1 of course you're right, the pieces are only tiny, and perhaps I should just adjust my expections of it's lasting ability!!

We did have a play feeder (Molecuball) but he wasn't that interested.  He prefers something he can chuck about, hide under the furniture and use to talk with his mouth full...

I think Kongs are a superb idea & appauld the person who invented them.  Over the past few years Molster has gradually gone from a puppy one, to a normal red one & now she's on the black one & she loves them :)  Some ideas for recipes I've had in the past have also gone down well, she particularly likes the frozen gravy with biscuits inside, bit of a messy one but keeps her occupied for hours.  She doesn't chew hers though & doesn't seem to be bothered about it unless there's a treat stuck inside!

I keep buying indistructable toys and Kongs for my Cocker and he poistively knaws lumps off everything. The Border Collie plays like with everything, the cocker grabs his ball, toy whatever and reduces it to mush. The only "toy" he plays with is an old T shirt of mine tied in knots and replaced when torn to shreds in pulling games.
I think some dogs just enjoy destroying things, Whistler def. does. Jake plays with everything chucking plant pots around onnthe lawn ect.. No idea why he has huge teeth and loves using them, not on anything human or animal but on inanimate objects especially if it anoys Jake.
