My GR has HD as some of you already know.
Now what i would like to know is do any of you have your dogs on carpodryl tabs permanant.
Molly has 1 tab every day as she needs it,im not sure how long she should carry on having these tablets, she has had them now for 7months.

She wil have surgery in the near future, but just thought tabs maybe doing harm to her by continuing them....molly is 3yrs old.
She is allowed a max of 2 per day.
Any advice please.

I would be thinking about using something more natural like Devils Claw for the pain relief, it is also an anti inflammatory, I'd be adding glucosimine & chonditron (excuse spellings) and flax seed oil to her diet.  Make sure she is not over weight as this will add to the problem for her hips (better slightly under than over) and I'd also be thinking on the lines of hydrotherapy to build up her muscles as dogs with HD tend to get muscle wastage in the affected area.  Make sure she isn't running up and down stairs as this will also cause more problems and pain for her.

I think carpodryl is classed as a NSAID and so continued use can cause liver damage so not good for long term use in such a young dog.

Good luck with your girl.

Thank you Perry for your reply.
Molly is on synoquin, and devils claw, she is also on a diet and has lost 3kg since xmas.
She has been to hydro for the last 3months,but my vet advised me to stop it now as molly gets very distressed in the water and in a state.

I asked  about the carpodryl as i thought it may affect the liver if on long term. she does need 1 tab every day even with the devils claw, but to be honest i dont think the devils claw does help at all.
We are planning her opp for august time with our vets advice, she also said that she would like molly off the carpodryl asap.
Thanks again.

have you tried synoquin and cod liver oil daily, my 6yr old rott has HD and these make a huge difference to her, she doesnt need any pain relief. I also have had 3 cruciates done in the past few years and all the dogs have done very well after with the same supplements in the food daily. Worth a try if you havent already :)

Hi goldies
You may find your GR will need time for the cartrophen to work.
Maybe try the devils claw [no bute is its other name] liquid form is what i use,i have not seen much improvement with this myself, but not used it to long,so maybe i will see improvement soon.
Good luck and i hope you find something helps your goldie soon.

was he on the synoquin for quite a while as it takes up to 6 weeks for it to start taking effect so sometimes you have to stick with it even though you arent seeing any results at first.
I have had one dog on metacam too which i have found worked well for my dog, you may get different opinions on that though but just my experience of it has been very good. Hope he is more comfortable very soon
